Options for Mental ill individual

My sister has Schizophrenia Mental Illness. It's getting worse and worse because sadly to say my family is not the right place for her to be at. I want her to move out but with that illness she may not be capable to live on her own. She also refuses to go see Doctor. I am here in the US constantly worried. I have filed petition for the sibling visa but the wait is taking forever. I am reaching out to members here to see if there are any options at all to get her here with me so that I can take care of her, get the right treatments for her, provided this situation?

That is a tough situation. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to speed up the process. Additionally I think untreated schizophrenia may cause problems at her medical down the road, years from now when she'll have a visa number available as your sibling.

Even if she lived with you, she could refuse to see a doctor for medical treatment.

I was going to suggest the same as Boiler but I see 2 problems. The refusal to actually see a doctor and once she departs the U.S. I am unsure, based on what you say, that she will continue the recommended treated abroad.

Have you thought of an extended visit to go see her to get her the treatment in her home country that is necessary?

Unless you have legal medical guardianship your sister can refuse all treatment. If she is refusing now then I don't see how petitioning for her will help. If she gets proper treatment where she is then it makes the reason you want her to immigrate moot. I would suggest going there and convincing her to get proper treatment first before anything else.

What happens at the medical? I know that being diagnosed with a disorder doesn't mean a denial but refusal of treatment may be a problem.

Kind of a Catch 22 situation. The OP needs to justify expediting the immigration process to get the sister treatment but the sister is refusing any treatment.

I'm not sure what happens at the medical. Having OP's sister's condition on its own does not make her inadmissible unless she poses a danger to herself and others. I'm not sure how refusal of treatment would play into it.

You don't say what country she is in but getting even a tourist visa for a sister is hard

and one with a mental illness, as you say, chances she will pass a medical exam for a visa interview are even slimmer

I am assuming she has been diagnosed as you say you know her illness

she needs treatment where she lives

most treatments in any country for this are poor even in the US

as most do not understand the problems / not even the best of doctors can keep a patient on the right track

the medication has hard side effects and patients stop using as soon as they undertand they can do on their own

sorry for your situation and hers but if they know of illness at time of exam, she will more than likely not get a visa

and her parents are legal guardians as they are alive so going that route is not an option either

Inadmissibility for potentially becoming a public charge could be an issue in granting an immigrant visa if she can not support herself.

I will just say, as someone living with a sister with schizophrenia, treatment in the US is both incredibly expensive (meds and doctors) and also not nearly as effective as you would think. I would strongly urge you to make sure the cost is something you can afford and if the treatments are so much better than what is available where she is now.

As someone who is a mental health provider, if she is non-compliant with her mental health treatment at home, she will be non-compliant here. She will most likely be unstable and not able to complete the medical exam which will cause her denial. In the US, you cannot make her take her medications, and if you receive legal guardianship which is a court order, she will still be disregulated in the US.
