Guz interview cellphone question!

My fiancee is going for her interview in the morning, and I am reading that cellphones can't go past the second check point and they can hold it for you. However, I am also reating that this isn't done anymore and to pay ppl outside who are pretty much there to hold ppls cells.

Anyone went thru this recently can fill in. I am unable to be at guz so I'd like to be able to communicate with her. Thanks

Unfortunately any type of eletronic device is NOT allowed in the Embassy.

Either pay someone to keep the phone outside or wait for her to call you back. As much anxious we get to talk with our loved ones, there is no exception for that.

It's been answered, but I will just re-iterate what they are saying. When my SO had her interview in April I held her bag outside for her, because it was 100% not allowed. You need to look at it from their perspective, with the vastly increasing capabilities in technology, even a phone sitting idle in a security holding bin can pose a massive risk to the internal networking inside, or could be a bomb, or whatnot.

Further more here is the information from the Guangzhou website.

For customers visiting our office, please note that the following items are not permitted in the facility and may not be checked in with U.S. Consulate security guards:

  • Large handbags or backpacks
  • Mobile phones
  • Laptop computers
  • Other electronic devices
