Hey guys! How are you doing?

while I wait for the process to go through I'm taking care of my vaccines. The list i got from the consulate doctor had 4 vaccines as mandatory for my age: TD (tetanus), MMR, Influenza and varicella. I got some questions about a couple of them. I already got the TD and varicella, those are fine, but I cannot find the Influenza one, because it says it is the seasonal one, which here in Brazil is H1n1, and the doctor says its not this one. Do you know if theres a specific name for that shot? And also, MMR, i got the shot when i was 1 year old. Do I need to get it again or its once in a lifetime?

I know each consulate and doctor is different, but I keep asking about this "flu shot" and everybody says something different! I need assistance!! lol

Thank you :)

It's the influenza vaccine. You are correct, it is seasonal. It typically isn't available until September. You are not expected to receive if it is out of season.

I am also trying to get all the required vaccinations done and just posted another message about this. I was wondering if you need all these vaccinations, regardless age or home country And now I see this post.

hi beatrizteller, how do you know which vaccinations are mandatory for your age? And is this different per country?

hi liefde_overzee, do you know more about the Dutch vaccinations requirements?

According to the CDC, if you can provide proof (by way of a Doctor's note) stating you've received the MMR vaccination, you're good.

If you cannot provide proof, you will have to have the MMR again.

BUT, I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination!!

Unless other members have different experiences, you should be ok.

The MMR vaccine should have been given in two doses (first at 1-2 yo, second in teens/pre-teens).

TD needs to be administered within last 10 years

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

You can take your vaccination records with you. The panel physician will determine which vaccinations, if any, you will still need.

They are not actually required for a K-1 visa, but are encouraged to get at the K-1 medical anyway. Some countries insist, and some refuse to give them. They are required for AOS later, and it does not matter what country, they are the same, based on age, season and illness history.

You will need MMR, Tdap/TD, varicella(or history of chickenpox), and flu shot(only during flu season Oct.-Mar)

Hi! All I know for Dutch vaccines...you have to have had a DTAP within the past 10 years, and must've had MMR once past the age of 12 months. If you wait to get the DTAP (if needed) at the civil surgeon's office in Amsterdam, the fee is 35 euros. As far as I'm aware those are the only two required. However, my fiance hasn't been for his medical yet, so there may be info I'm missing.

Beatriz,

I'm also from Brazil and I was super worried about not having all the vaccines but when I went to the doctor's appointment I did not have to take any new one. I believe MMR should be 2 doses (in Brazil they didn't give 2 doses in the 80's when I was born, so I had recently taken another dose---you can get one for free at posto de saude). I got the flu vaccine and remember that flu season is a different time in Brazil than in other countries!! You can find a 'quadrivalente' flu vaccine that protects against influenza A and B (H1N1 is a subtype of influenza A) and this vaccine will work for immigration. In Brazil a lot of people call this vaccine as H1N1 but it's actually wrong, since H1N1 is only one of the 4 subtypes that it will protect you.

Yay! you're a life saver! I went to a private clinic yesterday and they told me about that one, I was just not sure if the "quadrivalente" was the right one cause i haven't heard the name anywhere else. I even got the "triplica" at the posto de saúde, cause that's the only one they got. But i'm going to look for the correct one now! Thank you so much!

Information about the process is so easy to find before it actually hits a certain point where each country has different rules and procedures!

My wife got approved on July 1St. At the medical in Rio doctor said flu shot was not needed. They are waiving everyone. You will be fine.

They probably waived your wife because we were having a shortage of flu vaccines, since everyone was worried about H1N1. But I think after the shortage, they might require it again (although I can't say for sure). In any case, I decided to take because I didn't want to delay receiving my medical results.

I had to take the dtap at a private clinic when I did my medical, the dts I've taken for free at the posto de saude were not enough

You are right. I had taken the dtap previously so I forgot about that one. The dtap is easy to find at a private clinics. They only give you this one at posto de saúde if you are pregnant.
