How many people have you seen, with your own eyes, carrying a rifle on their person in a public setting? How many of your own family members have seen such? I know for me, it's zero. And I have lived in several very liberal-with-guns states.

Yes, it is their RIGHT to do so. But it's still not the norm, in any state that I am aware of. It's also your right to walk around town wearing nothing but a banana hammock. But is it NORMAL? No.

No, it is NOT normal. Posting a few links where some idiots are showing off does not make it normal. It is not normal for mass killings to happen. But of course the media sensationalizes them, and it's easy to find pics or videos of them, amirite?

Not normal at all? Seems like it's normal to many people who enjoy exercising their right to do so, there are hundreds of photos and support groups for people that do it every single day. Which is exactly what all the people these below articles do. There was even a planned open carry rally from an organization that wanted to walk through a black neighbourhood toting their very big guns. It was called Open Carry. They claimed they wanted to promote the use of gun ownership in the African American community and got a member of NOI involved. The rally organization ended up with a great deal of problems (thinly veiled racism) and eventually canceled.

If the act of open carry doesn't seem 'normal' to you for anyone to do, then why exactly do they have open-carry laws?

NO its not normal and in my opinion not smart. However to assert he was detained because he was black is absurd.

It isn't normal. But it's legal in certain places. The same with smoking marijuana. Laws exist because they were voted in. Some hundreds of years ago.

Mr. Hughes was in the right. And when approached by police, he handled himself in a reasonable manner, answered some questions, and went on without getting shot. Why? See the picture on the previous page. He FOLLOWED the LAW, as well as the orders of the police. Simple.

Funny... I notice one of your links said "open carry is a white thing". Hope Mr. Hughes doesn't find out...

If the act of open carry doesn't seem 'normal' to you for anyone to do, then why exactly do they have open-carry laws?

Mr Hughes was interviewed many times today. He seemed like a very nice law abiding gun owner, who was upset at what had happened in the murder of the open-carry gentleman, and wished to exercise his rights to stand in solidarity. Nothing strange or harmful in that, and it seems to be similar train of thought to all those that champion these laws.

Only someone with an agenda would insinuate such a thing. He was detained because someone with an "assault" rifle was shooting people, and he was seen just prior with an "assault" rifle on his person. "Oh, you're gun hasn't been fired? No problem sir, have a nice day."

NO its not normal and in my opinion not smart. However to assert he was detained because he was black is absurd.

It is very far from the norm. In Texas. In Arkansas. In Alabama. Or Florida, Georgia, etc. Or even Alaska, where no permit is required to carry concealed or open. I have NEVER seen anyone carrying a rifle over their shoulder in town. Never seen anyone carrying one unless they were on their way to a range or going hunting, in fact.

Yup, we are tied with Alaska for the state with the least amount of gun control. Like I said never have I seen someone actually exhibiting their right to open carry. I am sure it happens, just not often enough for me to be around when it does.

As far as your other comment, we did get this the other day:

I overnighted in BVT the other night. Must have just missed him! :)

I love BTV, such a small airport, no waiting...we literally show up less than an hour before our plane takes off and make it just fine.

It IS a nice one, for sure. The hotel is pretty nice, too. If only Bernie lived somewhere else. :)

Another nice place, if you are ever in the area, is CWA. Stay at the Stoney Creek Lodge.

My wife is actually a Wisconsinite, I will ask her about that. We're going to Milwaukee(well, west allis) to see her fam in Aug...we go for a week once a year.

I've seen Bernie downtown many times...even as pres nominee, he opted to walk by himself here because well that's what he did all his life as mayor and senator, nobody has changed around here and circumstances I guess he believed(and I agree) did not change enough to warrant any concern about someone trying to harm him round here. His campaign office is maybe 2 blocks away from our shop(not too far from his other office too as senator).

What hotel did you stay in?
