Here is one of the more famous.if I had time and was home I could post 20 or 30 in short order. This guy was an E 8 in the Army.

Not only was it not cleared up he was prosecuted.

Of course he was not black so it did not get the kind of attention this case is getting. Bottom line is it will not matter to you because the only thing you see in anything is race.

If there is going to be a comparison here, there has to be similarities. The guy charged with having a weapon wasn't part of a mass shootout. He was charged with something else.

I am from Texas, born and raised there, and do not recall ever seeing anyone, black or white, openly toting an assault rifle downtown. It is definitely not "normal" to do so and though legal it is very odd. So this one guy stood out and black or white i believe the police had full rights to check him out. He was smart, turned it over right away, was cooperative, and was cleared and released without a scratch. Which is how it should be. The last guy (2015) who shot up the Dallas police station didnt get negotiators or 6 hours, Swat just took him out. But he was white.

I was wondering about that myself when I read the original comment. Vermont has even more lax gun laws than Texas, anyone can carry - open or concealed - no permit needed, even if you are not a resident of the state. Yet I have NEVER ran into anyone carrying openly. Definitely would not be a usual sight anywhere, I wouldn't imagine.

Excellent point, Marvin, glad you brought it up. Yes, there ARE rules to follow... When the officer gives you a command, you follow it. Don't resist arrest. Don't escalate a situation that requires no escalation, unless the arrestee has something to hide.

You are wrong about his record having no bearing. The dispatcher can see it, and relay it to the officers on the way to the scene. Add to this that they had prior knowledge of a KNOWN FELON who was threatening someone with a gun, and they know better what they ar going into.

How many folks do you know who "sell CDs on a street at midnight"? Reckon he was really selling CDs? Or something else? I wonder how great must be the profit margin on CD sales at midnight that he can afford that golden grille? Perhaps I am in the wrong business, and need to open myself a night-time CD stand? (Please tell me you are intelligent enough to see thru this smoke screen???)

The point is, and always will be, if you're being arrested, there are still rules to follow. His record has no bearing on him selling CD's and being pinned on the ground while being shot in the chest. Now, if you're going to use that logic, then EVERY SINGLE MASS SHOOTER that sits in jail right now should be taken outside and killed. Because those dudes murdered people, cops even, which I think have a bit more weight than Mr. Shelton's criminal history.

I'm not saying it hasn't happened. I'm saying if it has happened or something similar, why haven't there been video or news coverage? If some white guy was shot in a car by the police in front of his GF and child, we'd have police reform in one day. Hell, back to back within 24 hours? I couldn't imagine how that would look...

It is very far from the norm. In Texas. In Arkansas. In Alabama. Or Florida, Georgia, etc. Or even Alaska, where no permit is required to carry concealed or open. I have NEVER seen anyone carrying a rifle over their shoulder in town. Never seen anyone carrying one unless they were on their way to a range or going hunting, in fact.

I never implied it is illegal, but I will stand by my statement that it is not normal.

Here's one possibility... He was wrestling with the police, failing to remain calm and allow himself to be taken into custody as any normal, law abiding citizen would have done. And while doing so, he was trying to get his right hand (out of sight from us) into his pocket where the gun was. I know you are not a gun guy, but trust me when I tell you, a gun does NOT have to be pulled out of clothing and aimed to shoot someone who is 6 inches from you. One can stick their hand in a pocket, pull the trigger, and the other person will be just as shot as if it had been carefully drawn and aimed.

Did he point the gun at the cops? Can't see how when he was pinned on the ground. And if he was shot for the gun, how come so many other shooters who actually murder cops get arrested without being killed?

Not normal at all? Seems like it's normal to many people who enjoy exercising their right to do so, there are hundreds of photos and support groups for people that do it every single day. Which is exactly what all the people these below articles do. There was even a planned open carry rally from an organization that wanted to walk through a black neighbourhood toting their very big guns. It was called Open Carry. They claimed they wanted to promote the use of gun ownership in the African American community and got a member of NOI involved. The rally organization ended up with a great deal of problems (thinly veiled racism) and eventually canceled.

If the act of open carry doesn't seem 'normal' to you for anyone to do, then why exactly do they have open-carry laws?

Mr Hughes was interviewed many times today. He seemed like a very nice law abiding gun owner, who was upset at what had happened in the murder of the open-carry gentleman, and wished to exercise his rights to stand in solidarity. Nothing strange or harmful in that, and it seems to be similar train of thought to all those that champion these laws.

This will not change what has already happened. But if one studies it for a while, then APPLIES it each and every single time he or she is stopped by police, it will certainly reduce the chance for rogue cops to wantonly kill people. (Unless, of course, they are black, right, Marv? In that case, it's ok to kill them all for WWB or just breathing)
