My wife is really into personal information security. She wouldn't be happy sending the numbers uncovered. I don't think its so much about the government being able to get the info if they wanted, its more about just not putting full access to your financial stuff out into the world. Just good practice I think, no?

Agreed. US Mail gets lost and you don't want that info getting into the wrong hands.

No one sees this but us government employees. My husband is enough into privacy that he doesn't have facebook or any other social media, and the only mention of him, beyond his gaming alias, anywhere on the internet is a birth announcement. He said not to bother with our ROC. But whatever floats yer boat! :D

You can get forms for Medical Power of Attorney online, fill out one for each of you naming the other, and take them down to your county clerk's office (or wherever) to get them notarized. Also, holiday cards or letters mailed to you with both names on the envelope, going to the same address.

We also included more "official" letters that showed that we had the same address e.g. jury summons, social security statements. You should also consider sending your packet by registered mail to reduce the risk of the mail getting lost.

Cheers

Yes, open a joint bank account, they want to see financial co mingling with bank statements from inception of marriage.

At least you can submit bank statements later if you get an RFE since you do not have them now.

You have a meager package, add more.
Explain in a letter why you do not have a lease/mortgage, a car etc. and include the affidavit mentioned above.

We don't have a car because neither of us drive and we live in NYC where having a car is a burden. Do they really expect us to explain why we don't have a car?

OK, well we can open a joint bank account in the next week and I will be sending my package in March 2017, so I guess I will be able to send them a few months of statements.

We didn't initially open a joint account or anything like that because I couldn't work until I got my EAD, and we are a couple who value our independence in general. If we had known ROC was this tough I guess we would have done stuff differently.

you are not understanding that a few credit cards with you listed as an authorized user is not enough. You need solid proof that you live together.

Well the credit cards are intended to show financial co-mingling, not so much proof of living together. For solid proof of living together I am thinking our state IDs that show the same address, that both of our bank accounts and various credit cards all show one address.

No, they don't expect you to explain why you have no car but they expect sufficient co habitation proof and financial co mingling.

Since you don't have sufficient items I suggested that you explain why you don't and some of it would be about a car

and lease/mortgage issue. It is up to you how to convince them and with what evidence.

I will add that it is not impossible to remove conditions without all the gazillion things people list.

We did NOT have--

Same last names

Joint mortgage or house deed (all mine)

Both names on utilities (all mine)

Kids

Joint mobile phones

Joint health insurance

No beneficiary status on anything for the other.

No medical power of attorney (my kids have all that for me)

But we did have a joint bank account which OP doesn't. I sent the little thumbnails in the statements of checks written. It showed we both used the account and each wrote checks out of it each month. Well not every month, but I searched all the statements to find months where he wrote a couple of checks and I wrote some. I thought that made good evidence. You have plenty of time to create some better evidence if you want to.

Some people must come across as a real couple even when they don't have the typical list of things.
