I have received a note from the USCIS that my approval documents for my I-130 Petition for my wife have been forwarded to the NVC. After the NVC receives the USCIS package, how long does it sit in their mail room before it is entered into their computers and my NVC case number is generated? Does anyone know? Thank you.

NVC has been a little slower than usual in issuing case numbers lately; it may take up to 6wks for them to receive your case and assign a case number and invoice.

OK, thanks, but my question is: AFTER the USCIS docs arrive to the NVC mail room, how long does it sit there before they scan it into their computer and assign case number to me? Any idea?

Like I said, it can take up to 6wks for them to assign a case number and send an invoice. If it has been at least 3wks since NOA2 and you don't have a case number yet, I suggest you call NVC once a week to ask on the status of your case. The standard answer they usually give you is 6wks to get a case number.

Mine just happened from Potomac, NOA2 on June 9th, got an email with my case number on July 5th. Less than 4 weeks.

I might add, I never call or contacted them in any way. They emailed me without my prompting.

Thanks for the info. Your NOA2 on June 9th - was that an e-mail notification or a hard copy?

It was the day the NOA2 was approved, I received an email. The envelope with the hard copy has a postmark on June 10th, not sure what the exact date it arrived at my house (but I live in Brasil so it took a while).

Thanks for your reply. I live in Virginia, I got approved on June 28th and received a hard copy of that approval on July 5th. On July 5th I also received a text message from the USCIS to my phone that my package has been sent to the NVC. So, it stands to reason that if it took 5 days for the hard copy to get to me in 5 days, then it should take about the same time for the INS's package to get to the NVC. So, this is why I am trying to figure out how long the mail room at the NVC is going to sit on the INS package before they enter it into the system, so I can call and get the ball rolling after I get the NVC case number.

My NOA2 approved date is June 9th still NVC haven't receive yet, call today and was told is taking them up to 60 days...

Wow! Like I said, mine was sent to the NVC 5 days after my I-130 was approved. Maybe the procedure is different for your K-1 than for my I-130? Maybe it depends on the INS Service Center? My case was with the TSC. Which Service Center was processing your K-1 app? Are you in the States or in DR? Maybe that makes a difference? It's a mystery how they do things....

Service center is California I'm the petitioner so I reside in the state and my fiancé is in DR.. I'm not sure what's going on I seen people with the same service center, same consulate and same approval date as mine that already have their interview schedule so I'm not sure what's going on....
