That is the one you need, it shouldn't take very long to get it, mine took less than a week. Remember that it (the request) has to be brought to the German Embassy or Consulate in Italy to be validated, at least that is what I had to do here at a cost of 15 Euro.

I don't know how long it is good for either, I received mine in January and presented it at the consulate in August without any comments being made about the date, I don't know if they didn't look closely at the date or if it is good for a year. Perhaps when you apply you can ask that question.

As for been deported that should not be a problem at all in getting the certificate of good conduct. The certificate is to show that while in Germany you have or do not have a criminal conviction. If you have not been convicted with an offense your certificate should come back to you with the comment "Keine Eintragung" (No Entries).

Hey I was searching posts and I am in need of a german police certificate-my husband needs to get one.

He was told to go to the german consulate in Istanbul and get a request there and then mail it to Germany. Is that correct?

Do you think it will only take about a week for him to get it in the mail? Thanks so much!!!

@ fation:

The German police certificate is valid for 3 months, that's within Germany. But the US Consulates usually accept police certificates that are up to 6 months old.

@ Cetin:

Yes, the German Consulate is the place to go to if you need a police certificate and reside outside Germany. You can read more about it here: http://www.bundesjustizamt.de/nn_257944/DE...e/WohnortA.html

(it is in German, though). I think you can even download the form there.

Usually they issue those pretty fast (1-2 weeks when you live in Germany) and if they do the paperwork right there at the consulate you should get it within that time frame as well. If they send the application to Germany and have it done there it might take a little longer. Good luck with it.
