I did ask the guy at the office if there was any reason as to why it is taking so long to process, and he told me it can take up to 18 months, due to fraud and they have to monitor every application thoroughly.

FO folks don't know much about Service Centers. When things were going well and service centers used to process cases quickly, the only I-751 people they saw at the FO were the ones that were waiting for a I-751 interview or whose cases were pending due to FBI background checks. In some field offices it takes more than 2 years to schedule I-751 interviews, hence he was right about it could take that long.

Husband went to his Infopass appointment today (case received 7/11/16 at VSC). His GC extension was set to expire 9/23/17. At first the agent did not want to stamp his passport, but his supervisor gave him the OK. Supervisor was convinced there would not be movement on our case any time soon. Unfortunately, they confiscated his GC. Hoping they are wrong and we hear something shortly.

That doesn't explain why VSC is moving so quickly...

It sure doesn't. If they really had to go through every application so thoroughly, and I am sure they do, then VSC should not have processed applications so quickly, VSC should have processed their cases the same rate as CSC. The officer who stamped my 751 told me he is not the adjudicator, so he can't really tell me why it is taking so long, he said maybe to give it 3 more months(I got my stamped on 7/17). Anyway, I have filed my 400 yesterday, and my ultimate goal is the citizenship, I have heard applying 400 might prompt USCIS to adjudicate both applications, the policy manual of USCIS actually confirms that, but still, it would still be nice to know your 751 is approved. So far, none of the July CSC filers have been approved, it is remarkably bizarre and kind of sad for those of us CSC filers who have been patiently waiting....

My guess is CSC will start adjudicating July filers by October or November.

Did you mean it sarcastically?LOL I have such low expectations for CSC. It just doesn't make sense that VSC is approving so quickly that CSC is just the opposite, sad.

My application was received at VSC on the 26th not the 6th.

My officer at my infopass appointment was able to tell me that my case was currently assigned to an officer, but not much more than that. However, he did say that CSC is moving slower because VSC was overwhelmed with applications AND he said that an officer may have boxes upon boxes of cases in his office at any one time. The guy I got my stamp from said he used to work at CSC

Does anyone know if it is a common practice for USCIS to take back the expired GC when getting the stamp ? I made an appointment to get stamp since I will be travelling abroad right before the extension letter expires so I'm worried if they would take my GC how would I be able to get on board the flight and re-enter the US...

Anyway, good luck Cupcake23, I'm sure you will get the new GC soon. :)

The officer is supposed to take the GC, but anecdotally it is hit and miss: some people keep their card, others have to give it up. To board a flight, you show the I-551 stamp, which is equivalent to a green card. Wishing you smooth travels!

Thank you so much for the clarification.

New processing times updates are available. Now CSC is on June 20th, and Vermont is way ahead of us by one month. So it has moved 5 days from last month, if it really takes one month just to move 5 or 6 days in average. July filers, you got 2 more months to go, and August filers  got about 4 more months to go, sigh
