@mandm411 If you don't have plans to travel internationally or change your job the answer is no, i-551 stamp is for those who want to travel and applying for a new job as a proof of their current status. Even you don't have i-551 stamp you're still LPR. If you're afraid of not having proof of your current status then you can request for i-551 stamp.

Realistically. i think they will start touching July filers by October, it is my guess..

Your green card expired last year you probably mean that your extension letter expires. It is recommended that you get a stamp because you never know how long it would take them to approve your case. If you have to travel in emergency you better have it in your passport, just for your piece of mind. I got my stamp and keep waiting...Good luck to all July filers!

What can be used to prove my current status if I don't get the stamp?

One question I have is if whether you need to get an infopass at your local office to get an I-551 stamp or you can get it in a different city than where you live in.

Doesn't have to be your local office; anywhere you can get an appointment is fine.

Hard for me to get an appointment in Los Angeles, so I went to Santa Ana about an our drive from me and got my stamp there.

Hi everyone!

First time poster here, but I wanted to ask a quick question:

My NOA is 07/29 but my GC does not expire until 08/06 of this year. Do I *need* an I-551 stamp? Is it required I mean? I have steady employment, I have my SSN and I have a valid California ID that's good until 2022. I have no plans on traveling (even if I got the stamp, I wouldn't travel), so I'm not sure if it's an actual requirement or if it's something you get because you need it for work/travel purposes.

Any help would be appreciated! Good luck to us July filers!

I wish I could find out why CSC is moving so slowly, almost unprecedentedly slow.. VSC has not slowed down a bit. It is CSC that has almost stopped processing.

Maybe there are more July filers being approved than we know? Because CSC is moving so slowly that a lot of July filers might be too demoralized to come here to post??LOL:unsure:

I think people are getting approved. It just so happens that the ones being approved aren't members of this board.

I wonder if they got behind because of all the cases transferred to them from VSC?

that is certainly a possibility, but like i said, the good news is the CSC has been so slow, even members here might be too demoralized to come here to post anything even after they are approved!LOL

One recurring question that I see in this forum is about proving status for employment purposes. The information I will provide here is based on my own knowledge and experience. You do not have to provide a green card or a passport with I-551 stamp along with the I-9 form. If you present an unexpired drivers license and an unrestricted social security card, your employer cannot request to replace any of these documents nor any additional documents, either upon hiring or during the employment. If they do anything if these things, they may be found liable for discrimination. Once the HR department of where I used to work asked for the greencard and I respectfully declined and offered my unrestricted social security card instead. They never said anything to that and I know they talked to an attorney about it(i saw the bill). And that was the greencard that they helped pay for. When I moved to a different job, again it was just the unexpired drivers license and unrestricted SS card and they never asked me for anything else. One may ask, what about E-verify? Well, E-verify only compares whatever information was provided so if you don't provide a greencard, there's no way to confirm it's expiration date.

I hope this helps.
