In the instructions pdf for I-751, in the Evidence of the Relationship section, they have asked to submit not only the original affidavits but also in the last paragraph they are saying : Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.

I have 2 questions, please help me on this :

1 : Can some one tell me what they mean by this ?

2 : I have obtained the affidavits from family and friend. Is it not sufficient ?

Not all by themselves. You must also have evidence of co-habitation, financial mingling, etc. Affidavits are supporting, not primary, evidence.

Is your timeline updated?

So I got an RFE today. I need guidance. I sent photos, copy of insurance cards with both our names, copy of letters addressed to us. Income taxes (well transcripts). Forgot what else. Now the want birth certificate of baby, which I have, they want bank statements(letter says they want records for as long as we been together, is this true?)  Prove that we live together, now the lease is under my name cause I moved here before he got here.  I can give utility bill but for how long does it need to be? One year or more?  I do not have a will Nor a power of attorney, do I need to get one ? The also mentioned letters from friends with supporting documents, what does this mean?

You can write a letter stating why his name is not on the lease .  You should provide bank statement covering the  time you having been married/ since the joint accounts were created.  Just a few  statements here and there from every year.  there are no timeline for utility bills - just provide a few copies from when you started living together until now  (  5  or so ) . It is not necessary to have a will  or power of attorney . Just make sure you provide solid proof for the other things.  Birth certificate will be a great proof.   You need to have your family or friends provide  affidavits  - stating they know you as a couple ect.... and they need to be notarized  ( 2-3 letters will do).

You will be just fine

You are the best! Thank you. Do you happen to know if each letter from friends need to be accompanied with proof of what they are writing about?

Honestly, I will recommend not placing a lot of weight on letters. USCIS knows that can be faked and there's no way they can prove otherwise so they really don't care about them. I will suggest focusing more on the concrete evidence like rental agreement together for the time you've been together, loan

agreements showing both of your name on it, bank statements stretching as far back as 2-3 years, insurance policy documents showing both your name, mortgage and house ownership documents showing both your names etc. commingling assets and finances are the strongest proofs of a real relationship.

~AOS : 09/11/2014 - 2 YR Green card received!.

~ROC 07/13/2017 - 10 YR Green card received!.

~N-400 : 10/28/2020 - N400 Interview & Approval/Oath Ceremony/US Citizen!

More Importantly, I am a proud Anti-Fascist!

Send them exactly what they are requesting. If you have bills, send them more than 1 year. Did you send them documents showing you both live there?

Hi all. I hope this post will help some people or at least give them some reassurance on this process.

I went to my infopass appointment, brought with me the copies of my I751 package, my green card (the expired one) and the NOA. The wait to talk with a USCIS officer was short and I was lucky to find a really kind, professional and understanding one. I explained that I wanted to both check my change of address and also ask some information on the process and where my application stands. He said it sits in California since the time it was received in July last year... however he explained that the recent President has nothing to do with the long processing time. He explained that USCIS has received a big amount of applications, and also then new green card seems like more "pink" than green and they had some issues with the printing process.

He mentioned that July 2016 filers should receive an answer (either RFE, Approval with request to interview, or Approval with no interview) within the next two months. Although my extension letter was going to expire in September 2017, he gave me the passport stamp. Usually they won't give you a stamp unless you are 2-3 weeks close to the expiration date of your extended green card (if you received the NOA, the extension date is a year from the date of extension on your GC). However, I explained my wife and I would like to travel outside USA in the end of 2017 and would like to purchase the tickets but we would not do that unless we had the renewed GC or a stamp. I also explained that I live 2 hours from the USCIS office and for that reason he took my GC, and gave me passport stamp which proofs my legal status for one year (so to July 2018). That stamps gives the authorization to travel and to work, it's basically a GC stamped on your passport.

Overall, I feel good about the process, now I have until July 2018 to receive the approval on my I751 and I believe it will happen soon.

So good luck to all for this lengthy and stressful process. If you are uncertain about where your application stands, call the USCIC number (800-37-55-283) or make an infopass appointment using the website.

If you have any questions. Please let me know.

It is a pretty common practise from USCIS there is nothing to worry. Honestly speaking your case is almost approved. USCIS just want to verify that you are still married. Send them the latest set of evidence you have gathered since you file for ROC last year and i would send the previous evidence too if was in your place. You might get your approval very soon after you respond to RFE. The letter you recieved from USCIS is a standard letter format which is not specfically designed for you but to give you an idea. USCIS certainly send the same letter to anyone for RFE. Good luck and i am pretty sure you would be aporoved.

My lawyer said the same thing, but if one really wants to use friends and family members to vouch for him or her, in my personal experience, my lawyer suggested to include a copy  driver license for identification purpose. I did that with my 601 waiver and it worked. I also submitted 2 letters from friends that way.
