We share the same NOA date and Local office. My lawyer advised me to go for infopass appointment 1 month before the date on NOA. I have taken infopass appointment for July 3 2017.

Thank you so much for your advice.

I decided to take the Amtrak to Albany. The thought never crossed my mind to go so far, but there were plenty of available times. It's going to cost us $180 to get there, but it'll be worth it. We'll try to do something interesting while we're there.

When you say extension letter, what do you mean? I've heard other people talk about it too, but the last thing I received was the NOA, which the biometrics person stamped and signed. I don't think I've received any mailings since then.

In an emergency, for travelling and such you can do an emergency walk in. I know someone on this forum who had lost their GC had applied for ROC and was due to travel to England. They did an emergency walk in to their local office and received an i55i stamp in their passport.  However if you have booked the trip then have the day out and enjoy it. Also, it is true if you want an info pass you have to wait until the system updates after midnight, does not apply to weekends though.  Enjoy your trip to Japan, I am meant to be visiting there next year as my son is getting married there.

Removal of Conditions..  TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK

Time to reset the tick tock clock again.   Roll my eyes.

GC  Conditional date:  05/26/2015

In the NOA/extension letter, they specifically say something along the lines of "this letter extends the validity of your permanent resident card for a year". That's not the exact wording, though.

The NOA  says

Quote

Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year. During the one-year extension you are authorized employment and travel. (This extension and authorization for employment and travel does not apply to you if your conditional resident status has been terminated).

@tetlee Yes, the wording is confusing... a great many people incorrectly assume that it means one year after the NOA date. But the USCIS understanding of the meaning is that your Conditional Resident status (which would otherwise expire on the date on the card) is extended for a year (from the date on the card).

Yes, about a month in advanc, I confirmed with my lawyer, and one USCIS phone agent and a second tier immigration officer. My NOA is 8/8/2016.

The USCIS officers I've spoken to said the opposite, and the law firm I contacted said that even with an expired NOA letter, border control officials can search your name and Green Card number and determine that you are still a Legal Permanent Resident. I wouldn't take a chance with that, but I am utterly confident that the NOA letter extends the validity of the green card for a year from the date on the card.

If they'd meant "your conditional resident status is extended for one year from the date on this letter," they would have, legally, had to state that in the wording of the letter. In the absence of that, the default is that "your conditional resident status is extended for one year" means "one year longer than it would have originally lasted."

The fact that @ale23  was just denied a stamp because their extension was good until October despite the fact that their NOA was July 12th suggests that the field offices are operating under the same information I have. Some offices will stamp early, and to be honest, I hope that mine is one of them, and that I can get a stamp before I move out-of-state this summer.

I trust the USCIS agents at the field offices more than I trust the people who got stuck manning the phones at some USCIS call center. And it is your lawyer's job to be cautious. Frankly, I like the idea of being cautious, too, and operating as though you were right about the deadline. But overwhelmingly, every legal website and immigration information site outside VJ I've checked has come down on the side of NOA extension = GC + 1year

There's a pinned thread on this forum:

It has a link to a Customs and Border Protection document that specifically addresses our issue on page 38.

Hi everyone, I have been trying to make an infopass appointment for a month but there is no openings. What are we supposed to do? I am in Los Angeles :(

I have the same problem. I could never find available appointments time for Santa Ana office. So I did a walk-in today at the InfoPass location. They recommended I check the website early in the morning, between 7-9 am. So I will try that on Monday. Hope that works as I have changed my address and I need to make sure they have changed it in their system as well.

Also, when I have extended my DL with my NOA letter, they have extended it one year from the date on the letter and not one year since GC expires. So if I don't get the GC by then 11/30 or the stamp one month before that, not sure how I can still drive. I am really hoping they will  speed up their processing times at the CSC to avoid all this hassle.

Hi everyone, I have been trying to make an infopass appointment for a month but there is no openings. What are we supposed to do? I am in Los Angeles :(

I had the same problem with trying to find an appointment when I was home at night.   Tried one day at 9am and there were a lot of appointments open.  I think they turn off the system for some reason.    Try when you wake up in the AM.

USCIS made a mistake in my last name on the NOA. My lawyer sent a request to change it. When I check my case status, it says that the name was changed. However, I didn't get a new NOA. My lawyer says it's fine. They usually don't do that. I need to travel soon and I'm a little worried that one letter in my last name is wrong. Do they look at alien # only?

Should I be in a rush to make an infopass appointment? The DMV gave me a full-term driver's license that's valid beyond the expiration date of my extension letter, but I plan on traveling after my extension letter expires. Everyone says that the California Service Center is extremely backlogged, and there are appointments available 2 and a half hours away for next week.

EDIT - I had to go outside of my zip code for this one. Would that invalidate my appointment? The field office within my zip code didn't have any appointments.

What should I do? My status doesn't expire until September.

Let me know. Thanks!
