Hey all!   July 29th filer here, and as per the infopass officer, my 10 year GC was approved 4 days back so I should be getting it any day.   Short Summary VSC 7/29/1

Still waiting for Green Card.

July 11th Filer

Date of Decision 9-25-17 - Online Status New Card is being Produced

i-797 Notice of Action mailed to me and received - postmarked 9-27-17 from local office

Online Status - Card was mailed to me 9-28-17

Have to wait 8 more days before following instructions (on online status) to get a replacement card 

Notice of Action says to contact them after 60 days if card not received.

Perhaps what I am going to say is implicit in what some others are meaning in their comments about to file or not to file N-400 at earliest possible time.

 

One year after filing for ROC, most of us will be eligible to file for N-400.

At that point, some will  not yet have received their 10 year Green Card.

Perhaps their 10 year Green Card is just a few days, a few weeks or a few months away from being approved.

Now, they decide to file N-400.

There is  some speculation here that when USCIS gets the N-400 application, they  stop work on the ROC and put the file in line for normal processing of the N-400; in which case the applicant will be in limbo for another year without a 10 year Green Card.

Not a nice situation.

However, the applicant will be forced to go for a one year extension stamp in their passport, since the original one year extension letter will have expired.

This stamp provides for international travel, work authorization, etc., in the same manner as the 10 year Green Card . . . I assume . . . correct me if I am wrong.

So by filing N-400 the person will have to go through the hassle of an Info Pass to get the stamp, and the disappointment of not getting the 10 year Green Card.

But, there is a very big upside to this scenario.

You get citizenship sooner.

If you hold out waiting for 10 year Green Card before filing N-400, you will probably have to get Info Pass appointment to get one year stamp in your passport anyway. 

Then the 10 year Green Card may or may not arrive within the next few months.

But  when it does arrive, and you then file N-400 . . . you will be 2, 3, 4, 5 or more months down the list from those who filed N-400 at earliest possible point.

Now . . . is it important to get citizenship sooner rather than later?

Maybe yes, maybe no.  Depends on each person's situation and desires.

A few examples.

Many university scholarships are restricted to US citizens.

Many (most) Federal government jobs are only open to US citizens.

US citizenship and accompanying passport will get you visa free entry to most countries of the world.

If I am wrong in my above analysis . . . then enlighten me.

10 YEAR GREEN CARD PROCESS

July 22, 2017  ROC packet sent to Vermont.

July 24, 2017  ROC packet signed for in Vermont.

August 8, 2017  NOA received at house.  15 days since ROC signed for in VSC.

August 12, 2017 ASC appointment received. 19 days since ROC in VSC.

August 25, 2017 BIO completed. 32 days since ROC received in VSC.

August 11, 2018  18 month 'Courtesy Copy' extension letter received.  Critical number  297

October 20, 2018 18 month 'Official' extension letter received.  Critical number 297

December 4, 2018  USCIS Account shows: We approved your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, 

December 4, 2018, ordered your new card for Receipt # EAC17297003XX, and will mail to the address you gave.

491 days from NOA issued by VSC until Petition approved.

December 7, 2018 USCIS sent notice:  Card mailed.

December 12, 2018 Ten year Green Card received from Lees Summit, MO

499 days from NOA issued by VSC until Green Card received.

CITIZENSHIP PROCESS

December 6, 2018 submitted N-400 application on-line.  Estimated Completion Time: 8 months or August 2019.

December 8, 2018 received notice on USCIS that Biometrics scheduled . . . but the actual date was not yet shown.

December 11, 2018 saw in 'Documents' section of USCIS that Bio scheduled for 24 December 2018.

December 21, 2018 saw on USCIS website that they will be closed 24 December 2018 as extra holiday.

January 9, 2019 went for re-scheduled BIO appointment.  33 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

February 19, 2019 received letter in US mail that Citizenship interview scheduled for 26 March 2019. 74 days after submission on-line.

March 26, 2019 Citizenship interview scheduled for.  109 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

March 26, 2019 Passed Citizenship interview.

April 12, 2019  Received notice that Oath Ceremony had been scheduled for 24 April 2019.  17 days after interview.

April 24, 2019  Oath Ceremony completed.  29 days after interview.     139 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

April 25, 2019  USA Passport Application submitted.

May 3, 2019     USA Passport received.    149 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

May 9, 2019     Certificate of Naturalization and Citizenship returned in mail.

You are spot on in my opinion. Been saying all along, it is all about looking into a bigger picture if your ultimate goal is 400, then you don't really need your 10 year green card practically. That is how I justify my likely delay and how I mentally adjust potentially another round of waiting. I'm getting my citizenship, it is just as simple as that.

and if they send you an interview letter then you have to go to the interview along with your spouse!

plus you can always sign for informed delivery on USPS website that would allow you to see images of your daily mail!

 

I'd obviously do whatever they ask me in a letter e.g. gather evidence or go to an interview. I was just wondering if my status would change to something different when they do request one of the other. Doesn't look like it, so thanks for the answer. And thanks for the informed delivery tip. I did not  know that exists.

2014-08- 13 - Status updated still "READY" I sent them an email re the ready status. Aug. 11 & 12 National holiday USEM closed.

2014-08- 14 - Status updated still "READY" I received an email from the USEM,We have received your said documents. Please be informed that your visa has now been approved. We are working with the preparation of your visa package and will mail it to the applicant address on GSS profile which takes approximately 7-10 days. Applicant should refrain from making any irrevocable travel arrangements until he/she receives.<p>

Congrats :-) my Noa is Jul 22 too. But I have received a survey email from uscis. Is it a scam?? Does that anything to do with the approval!! Just wondering, did u get anything like that?

I received the survey email from USCIS on Saturday too. Hang in there! You'll be approved soon :)

Please make sure that, before you update the list, you remove the quote, or else no one else can quote your post.
