Hi I'm a American citizen by birth my husband is a Dominican citizen and we are currently pregnant due in December. I would like to know people's experiences with filing dcf at the embassy in DR how fast their spouse received the visa that kind of thing. We planned on having our baby in America not here (hospital are a lot better in America) I've never known anyone that went threw the process personally I just don't want to leave my husband yet I hoped we'd leave together and emotional I need him. I know many people spend years apart (his best friend is a LPR in America and his wife is still here the process is a lot longer for LPR) He's never been arrested in his life or has applied for a visa just a very good hard working man that wants to provide for his wife and child he even has a job lined up in America!!! Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond

Have you started the process?? I read that it can take anywhere between 1-6 months it they do the application and visa in the same process which is perfect my only fear is that I'll have to give birth here which I do not want at all I'd feel a lot safer in America and my husband feels the same. He's known people that have died from being given the wrong medicine at the hospital

Giving birth here is ok. Pick a good doctor and hospital. Dont worry ok. Medicine here is ok. I didnt file yet. Soon

Oh that's only part of it I want to make sure my baby is born a American citizen I fear that if he/she is born here it will delay the process and it's more money that needs to be spent so we can all return to America. If I have to I'll return first to give birth and wait for him there

My friend is canadian, her husband is dominican. She just had a baby here. Its no problem, baby is a canadian with canadian passport already. Its similar process for us, you file a birth abroad paper at the embassy. The baby is a u s citizen as long as 1 parent is a u s citizen.

Actually it could be beneficial to you to have the baby here. The baby will have dual citizenship and so can you. Depends on what your longterm plans are. My canadian friend is also a dominican citizen already and she is paying like 70% less tuition now lol.If your a student here its probably better to have the baby here.

My wife and I are going thru the same thing also we have not yet filed our paperwork but we did call the embassy and they said the samething FAF said so that part should be easy if u do decide to have the baby in DR also why go to a hospital to have the baby there are plenty of good clinicas here.

Omggggg ????? you give birth in clinics ?? I guess I'm spoiled American that had epidural before in the hospital with my ex with me. Here I know my husband can't be present only my mother which my mom lives in Colorado and works long days without time off and I don't want to be alone when I give birth especially in a different country. It wouldn't be so bad if my husband could be there

I'm gonna ask her tomorrow. But she gave birth in November and her husband was allowed in the room with her during labor and delivery. In March they all went to Canada for vacation. So I dont think the process is too long. The baby has Canadian passport and her husband had visa all within a few months. But I will ask her for sure and tell you tomorrow. Me and my wife are trying to have a baby too, we plan to have 2 here in DR by the time I am done with school. Then back to Florida we go. I havent seen any spiders yet, I been here almost 1 year lol. But I live in Piantini , I dont think they are allowed in this area hahaha. Oh, I can tell you this , if you have the baby here it seems like they try to come up with any excuse to deliver it by C-Section here, because they charge more for that hehehe.

We're in San cristabal lol I've seen 2 I am the girl that screams when she sees the tiny ones I literally had a panic attack and jumped on the bed while my brother in law was laughing. I don't know why they said no men are allowed in the labor and delivery I just fear of being alone plus my Spanish sucks my husband understand most of what I say but not so much everyone else my first labor was pretty hard I was induced and had the epidural because of my bad back I would feel so much more comfortable in America
