Hi to you all!

I'm from Italy and planning to do a three-week vacation in the US.

I'd like to pose you a question: can I apply for an audition once I'm there? Do I need any particular visa to obtain before? Or my ESTA authorization can be enough?

An audition for what...a play or something? Or do you mean an interview, like for a green card?

If you get the role, I think the production company for the film can arrange a visa for you to work (I-129, takes 2 weeks). Just be sure to let them know you're on a tourist visa at the time.

So I can go to the US for some week... try to tempt fate and no risk of getting arrested by police?

I'd see if I could find out if the casting agents will even let you audition first if I were you. Most, if not all, require international individuals have permission to work in the US at the time of the audition.

Otherwise, an audition isn't working. You can't be arrested for reading lines to somebody with potential of a job offer. Plus, the screening for movies goes much further than one audition. You usually have the initial audition, they either ask for reels or ask you back and do their own, test you with other actors etc. So the process can be more than a few weeks.

Good luck!!

Also many require you to be a member of something like SAG

Re read my reply above. If you're still going for it then absolutely good luck to you! Let us know how you get on.

I read it. I think I should first ask someone of that field.

My plan could also be joining some part-time course of the UCLA meanwhile...

You keep saying you want to "tempt fate". Don't do it by attempting to work or go to school while on ESTA. Get a business or student visa if you want to work or study here.

Wait: I said JOINING SOME PART-TIME COURSE... It means that a working/student wisa would not be necessary. ;)

It isn't the full or part time nature of a course that makes it permissible on vwp but the type and duration of the course so it is ok if it is a short recreational course. If for credit or vocational course then it's not permitted.

'enrolment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation)'

Auditioning is not working. When you get the role that's when you do the necessary step. Let them know you're on a tourist visa upfront. Good luck
