Next Day Passport Pick up in Montreal

Hello,

I am scheduled to have the EB-3 IV interview in Montreal on 8/11.

I am also hoping to have a H1B visa extension interview in Japan around the 3rd week of July with Premium Processing (Current H1B is expired and that is why I am staying in Canada).

The reason that I am doing this is so I can move to the US before the 8/11 interview date so I can do the next day passport pick up in Montreal and avoid the 2 week wait for passport shipping (I need to be back in the US on 8/27 for personal reasons).

Its not very clear in the Packet 4 how to go about the next day passport pick up. Do I need to notify them before hand? What kind of proof do I need to show them to be eligible for the next day pick up?

Citizenship: Japanese. Lived in the US from 1993-2015 but H1B ran out before PERM process completion and 7th year H1B extension deadline so moved to Canada on 1 year work permit.

Oh you can get your passport but it likely wont have a visa in it. While montreal has been known to be that fast they generally arent. Personal reasons except imminent death of close relative, likely isnt a valid excuse.

Really?

It seems like living in the US at the time of the interview is also a valid excuse. In the Packet 4, it states the following.

"EXCEPTION: If you currently reside in the U.S. on a non‐immigrant visa, you MAY be able to pick up your passport with visa and visa packet at the Consulate in the afternoon of the next business day after your interview. Please note that due to required processing procedures, we cannot guarantee a visa will be ready at a particular time."

I've also seen some timelines with next day passport+visa pick up in Montreal.

Hopefully someone who has done this can chime in.

Oh i got my visa next day but that was several years ago. I havent seen anyone on here get it that fast in quite some time. Best of luck. "May" is a fickle word.
