I think you should not be too worried, i had almost the same experience.. We didnt own anything at the moment, we dont have a joint bank acct, im in the car insurance but i forgot to bring it to the interview.. But i had proof that im in his health care insurance, apartment lease and i brought a lot of pictures together with his family and friends

 

i got approved

 

I think the only thing she could do now is to ask for more evidence of your relationship..

i thought we got approved too because the day after the interview we got approved for the i130 and since it happened right after the interview we thought we got approved for the green card but after some online research it seems like it has nothing to do with the i485 and that I still need to wait for the answer of the interview.

The weird part is that a few lawyers told me that without the i130 approval we can get an interview date, while in fact we got an approval the day AFTER the interview...

This process is so stressful we don't even know if we got approved or not.

I got the congressman office liaison to contact USCIS to check on my case and the reply was that my case is waiting to be scheduled for interview by the local office.

Hi Everyone,

 

I used this website quite extensively to understand the AOS process and learn about people's experiences; it's only fair that I should share my experience, so someone will hopefully benefit from it.

Here's my timeline:

May 2016: Got Married

 

July 9: Package sent to USCIS (Chicago)

 

July 22: 4 text messages denoting that all of my applications (485, 130, 131, and 765 were received).

I received an appointment letter for biometrics sometime in the first week of August 2016.

 

Aug 19: Biometrics appointment

 

This is when the fun (far from it at the time) began.

 

Aug 26: Received an RFE for Birth Certificate (inadequate info on birth certificate). I am Indian, and per Indian customs (applicable to a few regions), a newborn is named several days after birth. The point is, my birth certificate didn't have my name on it (which is hilarious, and I later found out that it was actually a hospital record, not my birth certificate). The title of the document I had was misleading, but stick with me.

 

Sep 2016: Looked up info on birth certificate (USCIS website) and sent supporting evidence along with RFE to USCIS.

 

Sep 2016: Immediately after sending a response to the first RFE, I received another RFE for the same thing (I had a deja-vu experience, except this was not my brain associating an occurrence with a similar past experience. It was real, and according to many online, my last chance to resolve the issue).

 

Oct 2016: I secured the correct document (a copy of my Birth Certificate) and sent it to USCIS.

 

Nov 2016: My EAD card was approved and I got it in the mail in the first week of December.

 

Dec 2016: I got an interview notice, scheduled for Jan 30.

 

Jan 30, 2017: Interview day. Let me tell you, the interview was a nerve wracking experience. The interviewer played hard ball - right from not responding when we greeted her to challenging me on every single aspect of the application and evidence. At one point, my wife spoke up (but was polite) and defended me (even though the interviewer had asked me the question, not her) and perhaps that's what convinced the interviewer that our marriage was real. The interviewer gave me a form (on which recommended for approval was check marked).

 

As we began to leave the office, I noticed that the document she had handed to me had a different name. We were perplexed, and we went back up to the counter and showed them the letter. After checking, they said that it was indeed my letter and that there was a typo on the document. They also told me that they would ensure that my name is spelled correctly on the documents that matter (alluding to the ones I will receive in the mail).

 

Within a week, I received my conditional perm residency card.

 

The moral of the story is that you can never predict how the interview will go. If you're honest in the interview and the marriage is real, it will show through and the interviewer will know it.

I was thinking of 12 month wait in Houston so I scheduled a trip in August, thinking our interview would be over by then. Now, i realize it takes 13 months so we may have to cancel the trip

Does the text notification tell you the date for your interview? How long after that you received the interview letter?

they typically give you a month's notice.. the text doesnt have the date.. but you can call them and they will give you the date and time.

I was told at my info pass that they were sending out my interview letter that day as per what they saw in the system..

I hadnt received any text updates or emails nothing.. the officer told me she couldnt see the date, all she did was verify my mailing address is the same and told me i would receive it in the mail soon....I called uscis, told them i went on the infopass and that they were sending out the mail, and asked if they can give me time and date of interview... they put me on to secondary or tertiary... got the call back... they asked me questions about the case and my identity and then told me the date and time of my interview.....status didnt change online until two days later...and because the letter actually comes from the office it takes 2 business days to reach you (the interview letter)
