Thanks!

It's okay if you update it. But it's not as urgent with regards to any harm or damage. Your SSN is yours for life, so anytime you're free, you can go update it. You'll receive in the mail a new one without the DHS clause.

Hi All,

Had my interview today (Portland OR field office). Scheduled for 1:30pm and we reached with all our documentation at 1:10pm. Went through the security check, checked-in and took our seats in the waiting room. There were 3 couples ahead of us, and 2 had attorneys with them. Very casual atmosphere, my wife was on her phone the whole time. Finally, around 1:45pm, the IO called our names apologized for making us wait, and we followed her. She handed us a bunch of the photos we had submitted with our AOS application and complimented us on our wedding.

Once in her office, she told us to raise our hands and read out the oath. We sat down and she asked for our IDs. My wife (USC) gave her DL and I my passport and she noted that down on a piece of paper. She proceeded to confirm our phone #, addresses and our jobs. She asked about how we met (grad school) and She made some jokes and then proceeded to confirm my last entry into the US (as F-1) and went through the list of Yes/No questions from the I-485 form all of which I replied in the negative. She then asked my wife my DOB, if she had met my parents (yes), their names, and if I had any siblings. Then she asked me the same questions about my wife and her family. She asked about our joint sponsor (wife's dad) and make a joke about him swooping in to rescue us (ha ha <_<).

Finally, she asked if we have any additional documentation for her - we gave her the updated car insurance, recent joint bank statement, utility bill and renter's insurance. She took a look and said, that's it, I don't have any additional questions - you are approved and GC will take priority over all other F-1 visas or EAD that you might have. She said we will receive our GC in 3 weeks or so, and since we are married for less than 2 years, we will need to apply for a permanent GC after 2 years. If I decided to apply for citizenship, I will have to apply after 2 years and 9 months - she said disregard anyone who says you have to wait 5 years etc. And that was all, she said, follow me and I will make some photocopies of documents for you and gave us the originals back and said goodbye at the elevator.

I'm happy and pleasantly surprised that things went smoothly - we sent in the application on July 17 last year, and GC interview was January 18, so exactly 6 months. We received 2 RFEs (both related to I-864) and went in to infopass once to ask a question about our RFE (not very helpful). Overall, this was a smooth AOS process and this field office handled this very well, and the interview itself was very low pressure and mostly casual.

Wishing all July 2016 filers the best with their AOS process - good luck!

I passed the tests in July, got the temporary licenses in Sep with my EAD, till now.. I got the GC already but I haven't received my formal license one yet because my legal documents are under verification! I have to go to DMV to review my temporary license for the 2nd time... what a stupid process...

Hi everyone, I'm just looking for a bit of advice on my case time line.

I filed the AOS from K1 in the last week of July 2016, and received an RFIE in August. I replied to the RFIE pronto and my online status for my I-485 changed to "request for evidence received on September 12th." I received my EAD in the beginning of November, however there has been no update on the I-485 since the RFIE update to say my response was received.

I filed a case status inquiry but received an automated message stating that my case is still within processing times and therefore no information can be given.

My question is -should I be calling USCIS and asking for an update on the status of my I-485, or did the RFIE set back the date my case will be processed?

It's a hard answer to give because I'm in the same situation myself just that I applied mine in June, RFE received on August 3,online shows RFE received on August 03 but when i call the uscis, they tell me my case has been awaiting interview since August and that's about 5 months to date. There could be a couple of factors which depends on 1. whether your case is transferred to your local office, 2. the backlog of cases in local office. 3. Or perhaps your case can be approved right away from your service center. etc. There's so much to it but all I can say is keep up the spirit, and let's keeping on praying for some good news anytime soon. Best regards and I hope my response helps.

I went to InfoPass in NYC to ask about my case. Last update is "Fingerprint fee received" on July. The immigration officer was very nice and said that my case was just assigned this week to someone in Arizona (???). I asked "Why Arizona?", and she said that some of the officers work from home and take files with them. She also mentioned that it says my interview is waived, however, she seemed confused about it because she said I-485 always have interviews (I mentioned that I interviewed abroad when we filed I-129F but she said it doesn't matter).

Is it common that the case is being assigned to a different state? Should I expect to hear back soon now that it was assigned to someone?

Hello everyone,

Sorry for not being very present here. School and work take up most of my time leaving me with the little I have left to spend with my wife. I just wanted to post here and update that my wife who filed back at the end of July, finally received her approval notice today, with no interview. We should receive a notification of the green card being mailed soon I think. If I'm not mistaken, our next step after she gets her green card is to get her SSN Card updated to remove the conditions off of it. Other than that, I think it is moving on with life and not forgetting to renew the green card in a few years. It has been a great help to have support from the people on this forum and I wish the best for everyone else. I will try to poke my nose in from time to time and offer my own contributions to help others as well.
