Hello!

New to the forum and finding out that I am VERY ignorant to anything immigration.

I have been living in the US for the past 27 years ( came here at 1yr ) entered with a visitors Visa. I have had a work permit since the age of 8-9. I recently had a friend tell me about a 10 year rule saying that if i can provide proof that i have been in the US for more then 10 yrs I could apply for a residency without anyone's help. (example: marriage, sister or other family). I also asked the person whom fills out my work permit renewal each year and he verified that there is something along those line. However he stated my chances to being approved are very small since I would have to face a judge in TX and he said they are very strict.

Anyone file for this with the 10+ years of US residency? just want to see what my chance are.

I've never had any problem with the law, pretty stable income and self sufficient.

Thanks for the help!

Cancellation of Removal. You'd have to be in removal proceedings first. Risky. You also need relatives who are USCs or LPRs.

Pursuant to INA §240A(b), cancellation is available to a non-permanent resident of the United States in any immigration status who--

1) Has continuously resided in the United States for at least ten years; and

2) Has been a person of good moral character throughout this time; and

3) Is not otherwise subject to criminal bars arising from a conviction of any crime outlined in INA §212(a)(2), §237(a)(2), or §237(a)(3); and

4) Establishes that removal would result in "exceptional and extremely unusual hardship" to the alien's spouse, parent, or child who is a United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
