Hello everyone,

My husband and I would love to have my mother-inlaw visit us..she is a widow and her son and I have a new baby that she has never seen..I have been doing some research on how to get her a vistors visa (if we can talk her into coming) I'm just so worried about the plane ride ..plus there is not a straight flight from Jordan to GA..not to mention she speaks no english..I was wondering if the group had any info or ideals with this subject..thanks so much Starlett

It is very difficult to get a visitors visa, so that would be your first obstacle to overcome. If she does get her visa approved, you could pay an extra fee with the airline to have a flight attendant take care of her until she arrives to the US. My aunt is 76 years-old and my cousin pays extra for that service (can't remember the name of the service) and the airline takes care of her from the moment she takes off until they hand her over to him at the airport in Miami.

She should first get the visa.

My Mother is a bit older, needs a wheelchair, my Brother takes her to the Airport and the Airline deal with it from there. Just need to tell them that she will need assistance when booking.

My cousins make a list with all the possible info in English (and one in local for their mom) so when somebody asks her something at the airport or at visitor line, she says "I don't speak English" and hands them that piece of paper with info. She's been to the States five-six times like this without problems.

We also get the wheelchair for my MIL ...her and my FIL are 80 years old...and they speak no english. They have been to the USA 9 times over the last 3 years with no issues. We also gave them a list of questions that they may be asked...and let them hand it over to customs officials when they arrive. The other thing we did was to take a sample of the customs paperwork (that you have to fill out while in the air before you land in the USA) and translated it for my in-laws so they knew exactly what the papers were saying and what they had to fill out. People come to the USA from all over without speaking English....the customs people know how to handle it. don't worry. Hope she gets to see her new grandchild.

Many non-English speaking natives of Cambodia traveled by having a large sign around their neck indicating they don't understand English, and needs help. I'm surprised that many people who can't read were able to travel to the USA without a problem.

The big signs they normally used was, " NEED HELP! " They carry that sign on the front and back. Amazing!

Not speaking the language is not a problem - there are interpreters at POE's. However, if she needs special care and assistance, you may want to arrange for that with the airline.

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Citizenship Oath 08/23/12

if she flys royal jordanian she will be ok. there are alot of people coming from there that will help her out.

i speak no arabic at all but met up with tons of arabs who got me where i needed to go. in fact one of them just happened to be going where i was going so that was great. also when coming back there was a lady who started speaking arabic to me and i said sorry i dont speak or understand u...well she spoke english so she got me all the way back home.

there was also a man who spoke no english at all. he had a note written in arabic (so he could read it) and english translation so he could show anyone what he needed. he did finally find a arabic speaking guy who got him to where he needed to go.

she will be ok. there are alot of helpful people at the airports.

even when my husband came here there was a man who didnt speak english and my husband translated for him in customs and he got thru.

so if she travels royal jordanian there will tons of people who can translate for her. after all they have to go thru customs also.
