Should be no issues, as long as you have a drivers license and can get insurance.

ok. insurance is a must and it is for my own benefit so I'm going have one if they sell me the car.

Why they wouldn't sell you? Of course they will sell you one if you bring money. If you attempt to finance it, you're going to get screwed on the APR if you get the loan at all - so if you're planning on it, bring a cosigner. And somebody that has experience negotiating a price.

Wanted to write that buying a car isn't rocket science but it actually is - you'll be dealing with some of the worst kind of people - carsalesmen.

If you have zero credit history/score, you're most likely not going to be able to get a loan without a co-signer. You just have to find someone (who has good credit) who's willing to co-sign it.

i don't plan to buy it with cash! that is why I needed some information. I can put some down payment and then financing. I don't think I can have a co signer too.

Good luck then - only loan you might be able to get (this is industry where you can actually can get a loan even with no credit as they're doing everything to sell cars) is going to have insanely high APR - like double digit % which is absolutely stupid to take. Get a co-signer or buy something cheap with cash and build your credit.

I bought a car when I was first here. In spite of having bought and paid for three new cars at Toyota in NZ, Toyota here couldn't use my excellent credit rating. I had to have a co-signer.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

On a slightly unrelated note, consider getting a prepaid credit card to get your credit history started! If you apply for DiscoverIt Credit Card (and get rejected), they offer to start you with a prepaid one (i.e. first you send them 500$, they give you a card that has 500$, you can use it like a regular credit card. You can add money to it online, etc).

If you're here to stay, you'll need that credit history at some point, so the earlier you start at it, the better!

if you have a checking account or savings, go check interest rates at your bank first

i find that joining a credit union instead of a bank has a lot more rewards when it comes to financing

job, SS #, down payment, should not be that difficult

if you go to dealer and he wants to finance, say do it with my bank (or credit union) as usually dealer's have the worst financing

Yeah, especially if it's 0% for 60 months which two of my three last purchased cars had - from Dealer of course. Credit unions never have 0%.

As a conditional GC holder, I do not understand why you do not have your spouse be a co-signer? This uses their credit history to get a lower APR and it is good evidence for ROC you will need to file before your second anniversary as a LPR. You can also be put on your spouse's credit card and bank accounts and after a few months your credit history can be similar. Again this is good evidence of comingling of your lives which is looked at for ROC.
