I have to say had this thread not been resurrected, I probably would not have stumbled on it and gotten a good laugh! (not that a man on welfare that at the time had 14 kids is funny, but his attitude is downright hilarious!)

I am of the camp that welfare = bad! I remember in November of 2001 I needed some help to maintain my apartment as I had been unemployed since Sept. (My work burned down on 9/8/01...and we all know what happened a few days later! ). I felt terrible that I had to get assistance and the man that helped me with it was nice enough but was also very stern with me about responsibility! I did not get welfare of any kind, short of Unemployment which last only a short time and is a fraction of your earning of the job you had lost.

My opinion is had this man spent time LOOKING for work (and eventually working) he probably wouldn't be complaining about how cramped his house is!

But as stated many times previously, it is easier and more beneficial for many to sit on their lazy @$$ and soak up the Government Cheese (while pumping out babies, which subsequently means more cheese!)

Oh I have to answer that. Once I resurrected old POLL threads and people gave me a hard time about it. I thought it was completely unfair, since polls need as much people voting as possible so the results are more accurate right? I see lots of newbies that come and resurrect old POLL threads and I think it's fine. I also think it's fine to resurrect old game threads, for when we're bored and need to kill time.

Now when you resurrect a NEWS thread from march in july, then I have to agree with people giving you a hard time about it, after all old news are old news.

Just a though anyway.

Well in a way yes but people are always effected by their background even if they make an effort to be totally different that is still because of that background in part at least.

Not always. Its a reciprocal process. People get into bad habits - laziness being one. If you see a psychiatrist, you will usually find that most of your problems stem from your childhood and (usually) your parents. Does that mean, that at 25, 30 or older you should throw up your hands and say "This is your fault dad!". At some point you have to take responsibility for yourself.

That's one criticism of the welfare state - that people rely on it rather than take responsibility for improving their own personal circumstances. As I see it this guy has not done that, but what is more disturbing is that he has not had to do it. He is effectively living in a bubble.

I'm all for a humane welfare system, but I don't think you should essentially get free money with no strings attached. As it stands, this guy simply has so many kids he cannot possibly provide for them all on a single salary - which means he has won the welfare lottery and will be getting cheques well into his twilight years.

News does not age. History repeats itself and is always relevant. This story is not a news story that happened on a particular day either, this is ongoing "news". It could easily be printed in the Sun today or next month.

When i read it i didn`t realise it was "old" news and when i read it it was a new article.
