I am from the states, STL, & my wife is Dominican living in Santiago. We filed the I-130 but recently got our first update 7/1 stating they are sending a request for evidence. Is this typical so far? I assume this is where we send proof of our marriage, all my trips over there, money sent, how much, photos, etc....? Any other recommendations I should be doing? Thank you for the help!

Your timelines a mess

Not sure what process exactly you are doing.

If it's the CR1 wait for the request for evidence it can be as simple as a signature you missed to as complex as they see fit.

You will need to submit what's requested on the RFE. RFE set you back a few weeks...

Did you send the marriage certificate translated to English? It can be many number of things no one will know till you see the blue RFE form.

:time: correctly

See below:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

Make sure you sent in all the required attachments or get what ever is on that guide ready to mail with RFE....SAve on time

So then you sent nothing as proof of bonafide marriage? That would than probably be it but wait for the letter. This will delay you a few weeks Instead of being approved. But good news is it was being looked at.

You're very lucky it's being looked at already! We sent ours on February 5 and are still waiting for them to touch it.

Anyway, you won't know what they want until you get the actual letter in the mail. RFE just means "request for further evidence" and covers everything from missing signatures to missing documents. There's no way of knowing what they want until you get the letter. Even if you call them they won't tell you.

Your time line is a bit incorrect, by the way. NVC haven't received your petition yet. That's the next step after Potomac approve it.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Thank you everyone for the advice! I corrected my timeline & will await the RFE letter. I sent it all in but the marriage cert I believe I didn't get translated. I'll keep my status updated but I'm curious on the interview. I can be flexible with my job but how long will I get to book a flight? Usually I book one month in advance so I'm just curious if I'll be able to keep this trend. Thx again everyone!

Yes you will have plenty of time. You still have another 3 to 4 months at NVC before an interview. Here's the Case Complete to Interview spreadsheet so you can see the wait from Interview scheduled to Interview date. At the very least you will have 30 days.

  • 3 weeks later...

I did receive an update they did receive the updated Spanish to English translation of our marriage certificate. Yesterday I received this message;

On July 26, 2016, we sent your case, Receipt Number YSCxxxxxxxxxx, to the Department of State for visa processing. Please visit our website for general information on Consular Processing. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Is this a normal procedure or I made it through the round 1 & now onto round 2? lol

Oh and as a word of advice, you should call NVC in 2wks to make sure they receive your case & ask if they have assigned a case number yet. If they haven't, just continue to call every week until they give you a number or you get an email from them. The NVC stage is not like the USCIS stage where you just wait... you have to be proactive if you want to get things done in a timely manner. And if you have any more questions, the people here at VJ are the best at giving advice ;) Good luck!
