I'm a bit confused as to when my wife's waiting period begins. She initially came on a fiance K1 visa, we got married August 18, 2015 in front of a judge. Her green card is dated June 27, 2016. So when does the clock start? From when we were married or when she received the green card? Her green card expires in 2018 (in two years) so I assumed it was from the date we were married.

hi

are you asking about citizenship? if so, 3 years since she became a LPR

she has to remove conditions first 90 days before her 2 year GC expires to get the 10 year GC

for citizenship, she has to be married at least 3 years and 3 years of being a LPR

Yes, like aleful says, your next step is not citizenship, but ROC (Removal of Conditions): in the 90-day window immediately before her GC expires you have to file form I-751 with evidence of bona fide marriage (co-habitation and financial co-mingling).

After that the earliest she can apply for citizenship (assuming of course you'll still be married) will be 90 days before 27 June 2019.

Hi,

There are 3 requirements for citizenship under the 3 years rule. For the last 3 years preceding the naturalization application, the applicant must 1) have been married for 3 years to a USC, 2) lived for 3 years with that USC spouse, and 3) have been an LPR for 3 years.

Your wife received her green card on June 27, 2016.

She must file for ROC in the 90 days before her 2 year conditional green card expires on June 2, 2018.

On April 28, 2019, she can apply for citizenship.

Are you sure about the third requirement? I have not see this condition in any USCIS instructions. If you've been married for 3 years to a citizen, you're eligible. Period. So please stop making up your own assumptions and confuse people.

Ok genius. Before you go accusing me of making assumptions and confusing people, you may want to check the naturalization instructions rather than make your own assumptions and confuse people.

https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-naturalization/naturalization-spouses-us-citizens

Naturalization for Spouses of U.S. Citizens

In general, you may qualify for naturalization under Section 319(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) if you

Have been a permanent resident (green card holder) for at least 3 years

Have been living in marital union with the same U.S. citizen spouse during such time

Meet all other eligibility requirements under this section
