Hey Guys,
I was wondering about the procedure when i arrive at the port of entry in the US for the first time.
Will the waiting be long? What exactly happens?

I am also 17 years old and travelling alone from jamaica. will this be a problem?

***** Moving from US citizenship to Travelling during Immigration for more answers *****

They will bring you to a special area for new immigrants, finger print you and take your visa package. How long it takes will depend on how many other immigrants they are, but we were done before our luggage was on the carrousel.

Your age doesn't matter.

How long it will take will depend on what airport you arrive to and whether or not you arrive during the airport "rush hour" (the time of day when most international flights arrive). They will most likely ask you why you are in the states and for how long. Then they will take your fingerprints and take a photo of you.

I will be going to New York instead of the permanent address i wrote down on the documents. i wanted to spend sometime with my grandmother, haven't seen her in a while. Will this be a problem at the port of entry when they realize i'm in another state contrary to what was listed?

No, it won't be a problem. You are arriving as a permanent resident. You are free to visit your grandmother in another state than the one where you will live. If they do ask, just tell them the truth and you will be 100% fine.
