Work once visa is issued

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions that's I need some help with.

- during the whole process, is the petitioner and immigrant allowed to travel? Reason I say is because although we're officially married, we want to have the ceremony in another country before the visa is issued. Would this be a problem?

- once the visa has been issued. How long does it normally take for the spouse to be able to start working? Do they normally have to wait for the green card to be issued?

Appreciate anyone's help.

Thanks,

Will

Once the immigrant arrives in the U.S. on a CR-1 visa, they are a permanent resident (green card holder). The immigrant visa in the passport will be stamped at the airport upon arrival. This stamped visa acts as a temporary green card until the actual physical card has been received in the mail.

He/she can work and travel the second his/her immigrant visa has been stamped by an immigration officer.

The beneficiary is allowed to travel anywhere at any time before the visa is issued, though he/she may have problems entering the U.S. as a tourist with a pending immigrant visa application.
