Just a quick question so that I can stop worrying about it:

I've noticed a few people saying that the person working at the first window you get called to before the interview hasn't seemed too interested in recent pay stubs. Does anyone know why this is? I'm assuming that it's maybe based on them quickly scanning the 2015 tax transcript or the affidavit of support and seeing that the petitioner meets the requirements, but I wanted to make sure. I ask because I'm pretty sure my fiance's 2015 return is just under the minimum, but his paystubs and affidavit of support will show that the 2016 return will be significantly above it. Should I explain and insist they take the paystubs, or are they likely to skim the documents and ask for them on their own?

I'm experiencing the expected amount of pre-interview nervousness, but this is what's been bothering me the most.

Bring the pay stubs and offer them. If they dont take thrm at the inout window, keep them for the interview and offer them again before leaving if they don't ask.

Thr i-134 technically is only 100% poverty guidelines and it's not legally binding.

I was worried about this as well! I had a letter from my fiancées employer stating her annual salary which she took instead of the pay stubs. I offered them but she gave them back to me.

I wish I could bring a letter from an employer, but he's technically a freelance sportswriter (who signs a contract with the league every year and essentially writes full time for as long as the team's season lasts. He makes a set amount per-piece but not per-year, so what he makes generally reflects how the season went), but he also had to register a small business so that any outlet he writes for can pay him through it. I feel like 'full time' freelancer/business owner might take some explaining, and definitely some paystubs, but I'm also hoping I'm overthinking it. I want to be as prepared as possible, though, because my biggest worry is being told we need a co-sponsor and having everything grind to a halt. I'm even considering getting copies of his contracts to bring just in case.

Imho paystubs hold more weight than an employer letter.

But like i said i-134 isnt enforceable which is likely why they arent concerned

I'm going to make sure that I have everything that they could possibly ask for, but I'll be very happy if I can come out of there saying "I don't know why I worried because they didn't even ask!"

This whole process has felt like being in a car that's very, very slowly climbing a steep hill. You wish it would just hurry up already because you can't wait until you get to the top, but the moment you do someone cuts the breaks and you're suddenly barrelling down the other side. But in a good way!
