Hi all!

How does USCIS define “weapons training” (Part 11.Item. 19) or Part 12 section 15 : Have you ever been a member of self defence groups? Would this include recreational martial arts classes?

I am doing karate since I moved to the US, participated in tournaments and by weapons, I did train and certified with Bo staff. Do I have to write the whole story or get my sensei to write a letter? Thanks.

Just make it simple. I found a definition for "Self-defense unit":

A self-defense unit is formed by private individuals who are acting without authority of the government and who are responding to crime or violence occurring in their communities. The self-defense unit is usually formed to help defend the community from the crime or violence.

As you described, you do NOT participate in a self-defense unit. So, don't worry. Good luck :)

Awesome thank you. I'm not a vigilante lol or super hero. It's mainly for fitness and self improvement!
