Guys,

I am sharing my experience regarding my wife name change at the NVC.

Just a quick background. We filled I-130 using my wife's maiden name. Our I-130 was approved and NVC was using my wife maiden name.

I freaked out when I realize that we have to change her name to married name because we changed her passport after filling I-130. I called NVC and they said to email new passport and marriage certificate. Make sure to include your name number in the subject line. In the email body make sure to include name of yourself and your spouse new name (married name) as well as maiden name. In addition, also include both of your birth-dates in the body of the email.

Hopefully this will help someone here.

I thought we are supposed to send photocopy of the original birth certificate.

I think it is worth a try to call them and explain it is certified copy and you can provide original copy during the interview.

Thank You.

The NVC instruction site says certified but I've been reading and a lot of people sent simple photocopies too and I think it worked out for them.

Yup, I called and explained and they told me it was fine. SOO relieved.

Awesome, glad to here that they have accepted your request. I think after late 2014, NVC is only requesting photocopies. That is strange that they still have old instruction on their website. The email I received from NVC specifically asked for photocopies of all my documents except I-864.

I just turned in my package yesterday hopefully this month will fly by fast.

Hello,

I have a question. Its about the NVC supporting documents of a stepchild. Should I send to NVC my marriage cerftificate and my birth certificate for my child's application (i am the mother and my husband is the petitioner)?

We didn't send these to USCIS and they requested them, so we were delayed about 4 months because of this.

Also, for my NVC supporting documents - this is my first marriage, but second for my husband. Do I need to send his marriage termination documents, or NVC only asks for mine, if any.

As I said, he is the petitioner for my child and me.

I am filing the same way, send in your husband's birth certificate and marriage certificate with your packet and your son's packet. The two of you should have different document cover sheets. It's better to send it out rather than need it or receive an RFE which will restart your scan date at the NVC level.

I don't know why it's required an original certifikate for you guys, but in my embassy instructions it was clearly "If your case is with NVC, you must submit PHOTOCOPIES of original documents to NVC. Do NOT send original documents to NVC!". Hope this helps you.

Did you read on NVC website regarding certified copies too?

I did read and I know we could send the photocopies or the original/Certified would work. But yes I would suggest people to send photocopies as per the NVC instruction.

You're correct eljourney. ONLY copies are sent to NVC. The only original is the I-864 form.

Yes you are required to include the marriage certificate. Matters not anything you submitted to USCIS was for them. So may sure you have for your package and your child's package (2 separate envelopes) all the required copies so you aren't delayed.

Petitioner documents aren't needed at NVC for IV package only beneficiaries he submitted his at USCIS. I would have original or certified copy in hand for interview though.
