Hello Njpatel, what's your PD and I would recommend you to process for opt out if you want to stay in F2b, otherwise that may create problem at the time of interview.

Put it this way, if you are F1 in NVC books when the time comes they will give you the interview letter, if not you just wait on F2b to become current. F1 is indeed making some big leaps and you as well as i am anxious as my sponsor is a citizen too and I received a letter from NVC stating that i would be converted to F1 however i had the option to "opt out" of the conversion.

I wrote a letter requesting the same to NVC, but they have neither approved or rejected my request, all i know is that when i call them they say i am still listed as F2b, so we are in the same boat :)

The long or short is we have waited over six yrs and 7 months seem a long time but it will pass just the same so keep the faith and just continue to wait. Whatever category we are in when the time comes we will get that interview.

Guys, if your parrents became citizens, you are already at F1 category. NVC operators tells that F2b it's just because your cases are not updated yet. They will find out that at final interview and if F2b moves faster, visas won't be issued untill your PD become current in F1.

If you want to opt-out, you must get written approval letter from USCIS and to carry it at your interview. Personally i wouldn't hurry to opt-out, as F1 started to move fast, just wait a bit.

You can read more about opt-out here:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/504817-all-f2b-updates-in-this-thread/page-46

Btw, guy who first did opt-out here was from India, so there is no exceptions for India.

PD Oct2010.

Submitted all docs and fees, waiting on case complete and interview letter.

My case is a little bit iffy - my father naturalized in Feb but I'm still listed as F2b. His sister refuses to give me a copy of his certificate for me to request an opt-out. I'm nervous that if consular processing does complete and we're still given interview dates based on F2b, and we go thru the whole process and then get to the interview to be told that we have to wait an additional (4) months in F1. Will need to redo police certificates and maybe medical.

Is it possible to request opt-out without copy of naturalization cert?

I had honestly resigned to waiting an additional year or so, based on how F1 was moving. I didn't even notice the jump! Guess I'll just keep waiting.

Just to update you guys, I've just received email from NVC. It looks like, it's case completed email. Happy with the current progress. My PD is March 14, 2010.

16AUG16
Dear Sir/Madam,
The National Visa Center (NVC) received all the requested documentation for this immigrant visa
case. The applicant is now in the queue awaiting an interview appointment overseas, where a
consular officer will adjudicate the applicant’s visa application.
NVC schedules appointments one month in advance. The U.S. Embassy or Consulate General
tells us what dates they are holding interviews, and NVC fills these appointments in a firstin, first-
out manner. Most appointments are set within 60 days of NVC receipt of all requested
documentation. However, we cannot predict when an interview appointment will be available.
When we are able to schedule an appointment, we will notify the applicant, petitioner and attorney
(if applicable). The applicant can prepare now by reading about the embassy’s interview
requirements online at http://nvc.state.gov/interview. Thank you for your patience.
The embassy may require additional documents at the interview. In particular, if the following
three items are all true, the applicant must bring a new police certificate to the visa interview:
He or she is more than 16 years old;
one year ago; and
He or she still lives in the country that issued the certificate.
The applicant should not make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until
the embassy has issued a visa.
Sincerely,
Director
National Visa Center

Hello. I am from the Philippines. My priority date is November 1, 2005 under F2B visa category. I read some comments regarding opt out. In my personal case, I availed this opt out considering that waiting time under F2B is lesser than the F1 in the Philippines.

Yes, I've sent missing documents on June 23rd, and I've received a receipt from NVC on June 26th.

Hello. How many days did you wait for your case completion from the time you submitted your documents up to the time when you finally knew that your case is already completed review? Thank you.

It's been more than a month and I have not heard yet from the NVC. We sent our documents on July 11, 2016 and they were received by NVC on July 15, 2016. And my priority date will be current next month based on the September visa bulletin.

I sent my doc at the march and by end april i received an email that case was completed. I received an official case completed letter in June.

Do they have your correct email address, check your spam mail. But for a more concrete response call the office or write to them on ask nvc they will definitely confirm .

I understand your anxiety but best if you call them.
