Have you had driver's license in your home country?

my experience:

mandatory 4hr online course for substance abuse

passed written test at local dmv for my county

Got my learner's permit last month

got driving practice course with instructor

passed practice test and got my license

list of documents must be listed on dmv's site

they usually will want proof of residence (bills for the last few month, rent agreement, ownership documentation etc.), your i-94, id or passport, NOA for your AOS, and other info depending on your legal status and what kind of visa you're adjusting from

Oh, what a day, what a lovely day!

Unless you have an existing unexpired status, you cannot get a regular California driver's license until you get an EAD or green card.

You can still pass practice test with learner's permit, license will be just issued as soon as you get green card or ead
