No SSN after 6 weeks

Hello,

My husband and I did the DCF route through the US Embassy in Peru. We chose to apply for the SSN on the DS-260, but as I see here, that method doesn't seem to work often. :/ Anyway, we waited 4 weeks after POE and he went to the local SSN office to inquire about it. Since we live in a rural area, they were completely lost and pretty much just sent him away and told him to wait for it in the mail. Now its been 6 weeks since POE and still nothing (no green card either.) Should we just apply for the SSN again at the local office?

If it hasn't come yet, it's not going to come. I'd suggest you go to the office and apply for it. The GC takes about 2-3 months to arrive. Did you already pay the $165 GC fee?

Yes, we paid the $165 for the GC in April, about a month before entering the US. Thanks for your advice, do we need to bring anything besides the passport with the visa, birth certificate, and the application to the SSN office?

Ooh, ok, awesome! We paid before my family entered the US as well. Nope, that should be all you need.

SSN cards are usually received within 10 business days of applying so you should receive it soon.

If your SS worker knows his job all you need is the passport with IR1 stamped on it

our first woman said NO and bring in marriage certificate and his birth with translation

we did, got a man who knew his job and said i don't need those and he made out the paperwork himself on his computer

never signed a thing / it came in 2 weeks

Great, thanks everyone. So you think there's no chance he will end up with 2 SSNs then? Has that ever happened? :o

Nope, either they'll say he already has a SSN issued in their system, or they'll process his new application.
