How much do you think you are taxed per month for health care in Canada?? Cuz I know it ain't free... ;)

Indeed, Canadians, Brits, and others pay for their governmental health insurance through taxes. The difference is that our Canadian and British friends don't ever see a bill. Whether they're getting a checkup or open-heart surgery, it's already paid for.

I make a very good salary at my work, but the company only pays 50% of the premium on our Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Medco Pharmacy policies. It is a very good policy, but expensive.

Unfortunately I will soon be looking for another job because our company insurance does not have many options. There is the employee only option and there is the employee + family option. It doesn't matter if your family is just yourself and a spouse or if it yourself, a spouse, and 15 children. The family option is $320 a month no matter the amount of family members. We were paying $320 a month to cover myself, my wife, and my stepdaughter. I do not think it is fair that someone with zero children pays the same as someone with 15 children. That is retarded!

Then my stepdaughter turned 19 years old and dropped out of college. So she was then ineligible to stay on my family insurance and her coverage was terminated. So I had to reinstate her coverage through the COBRA legislation provisions for up to 36 months at an additional cost of $233. So now we are paying $550 to keep myself and my immigrants covered with medical insurance. That's outrageous!!!

Some companies have several options on their insurance. I hope to go to work somewhere else for the same salary, but cheaper insurance. The $550 a month is killing me. Some companies have med insurance for employee only, employee + spouse, or employee + family. I need more options than I presently have for cheaper insurance.

Both my wife and stepdaughter work, but their employers offer no heath coverage. Neither makes much money at their low skilled / low paying jobs, but I make my wife pay for her daughter's health insurance premium.

I dread the day the COBRA runs out and we have to pay for insurance on the open market for my stepdaughter.

I will certainly be pressuring my wife and stepdaughter to become US citizens (when they are eligible) to release me from the I-864 Affidavit of Support. Remember folks...your immigrants cannot get free public medical care at taxpayer expense. The I-864 sponsor is personally responsible any public charges incurred by their immigrants. Enough said! Your immigrants must have medical coverage because you are personally responsible.

Too bad the employers of all these illegal aliens in America aren't held as accountable for their cheap illegal labor at taxpayer expense. It isn't fair or right.

Lucky you.

I'm still paying for a biopsy I had to have last June because the treatment was considered "diagnostic" and thus not fully covered.

Dont you think that paying alittle more in taxes, is better than having to worry about what will happen if you get sick in the US.

I would rather pay a higher tax then living in fear of my loved ones getting sick and not being able to get medical help if they needed it. Which will lead to a life of debt.

Thats just MO

health insurance sucks in this country and do prescriptions...the drug compamnies and AMA bankroll most politicians election coffers.

yeah, really sucks! , I'm coming for a "third world Country" if you want to be posh and pay for health care you pay... but if you don't have the money you just don't. I lived in England too and it's awesome how the social protection works over there I truly think that USA should take that example as a model.

I just wonder, what if you find yourself in a emergency and you aren't covered by any health insurance and you don't have the money... what do you do in this case? what the hospital do in this case?.

My husband have me covered but I bet that in there are many people without the money and without insurance.

The hospital is legally obligated to treat all comers, with or without ability to pay. However, they can, and do, issue bills. And if they don't get paid, they can turn those bills over to collection agencies.

Pink...I just don't trust the government to administer healthcare for the whole population. They can't even get prescription plans for seniors right.

And I have a hard time with the waiting times that are a real fact of the Canadian and UK systems. My sister-in-law waited 9 months for a test for stomach and back pains she was having. During that time she was on disability from work. She shouldn't have had to wait that long. Her father, who had a serious illness last year trusted the system so little that he chose to go through surgeries with the private insurance he's paid for for years. He was take care of right away.

I don't by any stretch think the U.S. system has it right, but I don't think the others are all a bed of roses either.

But I bet she was compensated by the government during that time. And I bet she didn't pay for that test, either, or any treatment she needed as a result of whatever they found out after the test.

She may have been, but my point is why should she have to be in pain for 9 months???? :(

And to top it off, she had her job stressing her out making her go in for regular meetings to prove she still deserved to be on disability.

She shouldn't. Neither should the millions of Americans who are forced to postpone medical treatment because they have no insurance at all.

No system is going to be perfect. The question is whether we want a system that at least tries to be equitable and fair, or one that really doesn't give a flying **. A system that at least protects people from crushing loads of medical debt, or a system that allows hard-working families to fall into bankruptcy because of a medical crisis.

Take your pick...

Well my family and friends at home have been lucky then.

No one that I know has ever had to wait 9 months to get any type of appointment or surgery.

Its not all free anyways.

If your not on a insurance plan thru your work or on welfare, you still have to pay for prescriptions.

Its just you dont have to worry about paying to go to the doctor or having a huge bill if you need an operation.

Anyways, enuff about that s$it :
