My husband is the USC.. Since i've been here, i have tried to stay healthy because i have no health insurance. My husband has $100/mth taken out of his check to cover him, and he has a 10 dollar copay (and $100 for emergency visits). He's with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

If he were to add me, it would cost him 300 dollars a month for HIM AND ME..

We earn way above the poverty line, but still not enough to afford the 300dollars/mth! My only option to have health insurance is to work so we don't have to pay as much as 300dollars..

Who covers you guys? How much do you pay?

Fell free to write anything relating to health insurance!

Work covers myself and Sara.

I pay about $150 for an IPO for the both of us, or just $125 for me.

I went married and 2 on the W2 info... i think i get an extra $40 per check for being married.

Someones math seems to be off... and I don't think it's mine.

Sorry to hear your husband's company doesn't cover more of the premium.

My health insurance (BCBS too) is very affordable. I paid $30/month by myself. Now we pay $65/month for me and my husband.

Fortunately I work for a giant corporation that can afford the benefits.

Good luck in your insurance search - I know it can be really expensive!

God you must be worried every time you go outside.... what if something happened? I have insurance through my work but even before I was able to work we paid the extra for me to be added to my husbands plan....

the extra $90 a month was much less than what we would have had to pay if I had had to go to hospital...

That is alot to add you to his insurance.

My husband has Blue Cross too. To add my son and I to the insurance it only went up 100 a month.

Must depend on the company you work for I guess.

That just seems like alot to add one person.

I hope you can find an affordable insurance for yourself.

i started to get even more worried about both of us being healthy after my husband got a kidney stone last yr and he had to go to the hospital twice...First time was an emergency, second time, they kept him overnight and all they did was try to flush it out with some IV...... The charge from BCBS= $5000!!!!

No joke!

$300 sounds about average from what I've heard from people. I'm Blue Cross too, and to have the middle of the road insurance, which it sounds like your husband has, for my husband and I would cost $240.

Does his company offer a high deductible plan? That's what we have, and it's $160 a month for DH and I. It's in conjunction with a Health Savings account, which my firm kicks in $1000 a year.

I just got this job about a month ago, and prior to that, we were paying $300+ for really cruddy insurance through my temp agency.

If the benefits are decent, I would say go for it. Much easier to pay $3600 a year then be stuck with $20,000 after an accident.

it bothers me to have to pay that much like u say rahma (3600)

In canada, all was free! Mann!!

There has to be an easier way, a better company or something...It's ridiculous to pay $5000 for "trying to flush a kidney stone with water"....And then, they didnt even flush it! It came down naturally 2 mths later!

It depends on how much the company pays toward the spouse's insurance, the insurance company, and when the contract was negotiated between the employer and the insurance company. The cost of insurance has been rising rapidly and many who have had a low rate in the past are finding that their share rises dramatically when the contract comes due for renewal.

The employee costs now jump $360 - $410/mo (depending on the healthcare option selected) where I work to add a spouse.

Only a couple of years ago, the difference was only about $100.

My husband always bitches about there insurance going up.

Its crazy what you have to pay down here.

Why is it so expensive here anyways? Thought this was suppose to be the best country in the world

Someone on here a couple weeks ago said his wife had to have her appendix out and she wasnt on his insurance yet. $50,000 he was charged with everything that she had to have done. Thats crazy. Do they actually think that people can afford to pay that back. Do they put someone in jail for that or what?

Must be aweful for people to go thru life in AMERICA with no health insurance.

How much do you think you are taxed per month for health care in Canada?? Cuz I know it ain't free... ;)

Anywhooo...I paid $65 a month pre-hubster arriving and now I pay $130 for both of us with Blue Cross HMO. Each office visit is a $10 co-pay. No deductible.

Must be aweful for people to go thru life in AMERICA with no health insurance.

It is. A lot of people think that personal bankruptcy in this country is driven by people running up their credit cards and buying fancy cars, but something like 75 percent of bankruptcies are actually caused by medical crises.

Fortunately (if you can say that), in the coming years, the government will be forced to create a single-payer, universal government health care because industry is fleeing the States, in no small part because of astronomical health insurance costs. These are not simply manufacturers taking their business to China or Indonesia; these are highly specialized companies seeking well-educated workers.

A middle-class, responsible family making decent money and paying for health insurance is NOT safe from medical bankruptcy. Read on...
