1 year ban for marijuana use

I would really appreciate if someone could help me out. I tested positive for marijuana when doing the medical for USCIS to get a permanent stay in the US. I got a one year ban, it's been almost 7 months but my wife and I are not sure what it is we have to do after the year in order for me to be able to return to the US. Please help, it would be much appreciated!

I don't have personal experience on this. But if you tested positive during your medical, were you not supposed to be providing samples at random intervals during that year (to prove you are clean)?

I was never told anything about that. The person who did my interview said to return on the date they game me on the paper and to get another medical examination at the same place but that was all.

If the date is before the ban ends, then yes they are going to test you in intervals or at least once.

I recommend not doing any drugs of any sort if you plan on coming into the country. While MJ is legal in some states, it is still illegal federally, and federal trumps state, and federal is what runs immigration.

Did they ever give you info about periodic testing does it say it on paper they gave you? Norm is you test and prove you could remain clean though out the ban period.

I am not aware of any USCIS medical that checks drug use .

My fiancé was never asked or required to submit to random drug testing during his one year ban. He did not test positive on his medical exam just admitted to past use. I have yet to see a consistent pattern on drug testing through the ban period. My fiancé chose to do a couple voluntarily.

Our experience is prior to AOS. Not quite sure how it works beyond that. Wait out the year and contact USCIS to pick up the processing I would assume. But where that leaves your immigration status in the meantime....Idk. ☹️

Pretty sure admitting to prior drug use and testing positive for MJ are treated differently. Most cases I've seen on here, admitting to it, you just wait the ban, but testing positive, you're suppose to stay clean during the ban.

Imo if your next medical is before your one year ban is up, then ask there, but I'm sure that's what the purpose of the next medical is, they wanna make sure you're clean.
