I just got my recently expired passport stamped with a 1 year I-551 as my I-751 application is pending.

I'm getting a new Norwegian passport in 2 weeks, but the person at the consulate said they destroy the old passport, but I could keep the I-551 page.

Will this kind of transfer work for getting back into the US? Or do I need to keep my entire expired passport? Or could I make another Infopass appointment to get the new passport stamped when I receive it?

Trying to figure out the best course of action, it's urgent as I need to get back home to assist my mom before the end of July.

Keeping the one page wouldn't hold much water with CBP without any reference as to whose passport it was issued in. You should probably obtain the I-551 stamp again after you have received your new passport. I'm pretty surprised they even gave you the I-551 stamp on your already expired passport.

I'd also advise carrying a copy of your I751 receipt notice as well when traveling.

Maybe they can void the rest of the pages in the old passport, I will see what they say. I should be able to obtain a new stamp, but it would be nice to avoid another infopass apt.

USCIS told me they routinely stamp expired passports. Someone also suggested I lost my old passport.

Hmm, that could be an option. Usually the I-551 is to evidence your permanent resident status while in the US and when entering the US after traveling abroad.

Of course, you won't be able to use it while traveling since the passport is expired but, I guess it serves the other purpose.
