please help. After receiving a conditional gc after marriage

I received my conditional gc (2year) last week so i went to ssn office to update my info.

I still had the one with the stamp on it that says,

VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION

&by updating info , I thought they would send me a card without the stamp on??

on the receipt I got after going in today, it says

YOU CAN USE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD FOR WORK ONLY IF YOU HAVE AUTHROIZATION FROM THE DEPARTEMTN OF HOMELAD SECURITY.

so I'm assuming even my new ss card would have the stamp on it??

BTW he did make me fill out another social security card application ..which I thought was weird because i thought i would

A)still keep the same ss number AND

B) just update info to get rid of the stamp AND change my status

when i called customer service, she said i would have that stamp on until i receive citizenship. Is this true too?

please help ! any information would be so helpful thank you!!!

You fill out a new application form and show your green card. The number will be the same. That annotation on the card should be removed on the new card you receive. It is not necessary for a lawful permanent resident green card holder. If it comes with that on it, then go back and let them know as permanent resident green card holder, you are not in need of any additional employment authorization and that stipulation should no longer be printed on your SS card.

That customer service rep was wrong. You should receive a Type 1 card > https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/cards.htm

I believe that because you are a conditional GC, it will have that stamp on it. when i got my 10 year GC, it doesn't have that stamp on it. maybe SS have changed their policy. also, i know that the number is your lifetime number even though you update it to remove the stamp. wait for some other poster, they may have better opinions.

Actually, it's because OP most likely entered on a K1 visa. While adjusting status after entering on a K1, you're only allowed to work once you receive your EAD (employment authorization card) from DHS.

As an LPR, it doesn't matter if it's a 2-year GC or a 10-year GC, that annotation should not be on the SS card. If it is, OP, you should go back to the SS office and have it corrected.

I came here with my family with E-2visa, got married after my visa expired so I was not a K1. I didn't have a visa when i applied for gc.

I talked to 3 different people and they are all saying different things so im just confused haha

I did get my ssn before i got my conditional greencard which is the reason why i went to go update the info.. hopefully it doesn't come back with the stamp on it!

No. It makes no difference if someone has a 2 year or 10 year card. They are still a lawful permanent resident with all the same benefits that entails. Someone with a green card, no matter how long the expiration on it, gets a Type 1 card. They are not required to have additional employment authorization. Permanent residents are already authorized to work in the US. See my post above yours.

My husbands SS has the print on it, when he gets his GC should we go down to SS and get it removed or does having the "DHS authorization" print not matter because he has his GC?

Yes and yes. He should get it updated, but it mostly doesn't matter. The only benefit of an SS card without the text would be being able to satisfy I-9 requirements when starting work without needing to present a green card or US passport or other employment authorization, since an unrestricted SS card is a List C document.

If that annotation is on there, they can ask to see his green card. Without it, he can use a driver's license or state ID for the I-9.

Okay I figured it was something along those lines. I just wanted to make sure getting the print off the SS was NECESSARY or just optional in a way! Thanks ya'll!
