K1 Medical Blood Pressure

Hi,

I went for my medical, and the Dr noted my blood pressure was "a little elevated". (135/86). He asked if I was stressed / nervous. which I was / am. (stressed about the visa and nervous generally being at a Dr's room for injections).

Does this elevated blood pressure reading affect the medical outcome and eligibility for the K1 visa?

No, they are looking for any communicable infectious diseases, "physical or mental disorders of public health significance", and drug abuse or addiction. A high blood pressure reading won't affect anything - and one reading is NOT enough to conclude that you have chronic elevated high blood pressure that needs treatment. That would only be diagnosed if you had repeated high blood pressure readings.

I'd take that comment as an aside, "for your information", doctor to patient note, not anything to do with the visa. (The reading is also in the borderline range, not in the hypertensive/high blood pressure range.) If I were you, I would follow up with my own doctor to make sure you don't have a blood pressure issue, as you would want to treat hypertension if you did have it.

Exactly. He's a doctor, and he's concerned about your blood pressure. It won't affect your visa application but he wants you to be aware of it and get it taken care of if necessary.

I wouldn't worry about it. It was the doctor giving you an FYI. If it was in conjunction with something else they found that qualifies for a denial then it would have significance.

I imagine the doctor will take it into account that you're in a stressful test. I hate going to doctors and hate blood pressure tests and recall a few years back having a check up and the doc being quite concerned about my blood pressure. I told them that I didn't like medicals. They put a note on my record to test me (I was due back for something else the next month), it was a bit lower then, which they said was fine.

There's a phenomenon called "white-coat hypertension" -- elevated blood pressure in the presence of doctors or clinicians.

I wouldn't be too concerned high blood pressure is treatable. they're looking for communicable diseases and such. I'm sure they expect people to be nervous/stressed during this whole process.

It helped me feel a LOT better about it.

Australia / Sydney specific, do the results go straight to the consulate, or do I fetch them and send them / take them to the consulate / interview?
