yep, i don't personally know a single non-white person that's behind trump. granted, the majority of people i know and spend time with are white. probably why i see more of the racist angle in the average trump supporter.

I have a friend, born in Mexico, who is a Trump supporter. Go figure.

Some things I just can't explain.

i wouldn't necessarily be surprised if some of my nonwhite/ultra conservative family are behind him and i just don't know about it because they know better than to bring up politics with me. i believe the sheer amount of hatred they have for obama is what justifies trump for them. getting behind hillary/democrats/heathen liberals is more shameful than putting their vote behind trump. trump who not too long ago supported hillary/democrats/heathen liberals. lol yep go figure..

I have to disagree. I know quite a few Trump supporters and most of them are very nice people. But here's what I've noticed.

Most of them are very disappointed in the government, to the point of being angry. They have a strong dislike of politicians, so they've often wanted somebody to run who wasn't a politician. They've had options this election, and in the previous election, to choose an outsider other than Trump. But none were even close to being as popular as Trump. And, the simple reason is that he expresses their anger. When he is rude and insulting to everybody else; they like it because it seems to go with their anger. His rudeness is what has pulled people in; not his racism.

When he goes totally nuts and crosses the line; they make excuses. Not because they agree, but because they want to be able to keep supporting him. The common excuse is that he simply isn't a polished speaker because he's not a politician. And the other common excuse is that it's just the press out to get him.

When given the choice of admitting they are supporting a racist or choosing to believe that they are supporting someone who just doesn't speak well in public; of course, they choose the latter. That's what is so frustrating for me.

The obvious problem is that Trump knows words and he has the best words. And he is simply showing who he really is. He's a total racist who is unqualified to be President.

Personally my wife and I(I may or may not be able to vote, but it's still a "we" as we usually agree) were going back and forth on it for a while. We never liked Trump. I've made fun of him here before, during, and after(now) our back and forth. If it were up to me, he would have never been the GOP nominee to start with. Then again, out of all the other 25 or so total(16 GOP and some other dems + libertarian etc) that were in the race at one point or another I honestly can't say there's anyone I would have felt really good to get behind. I'd feel better with Paul or a couple others instead of Trump, but it's all the same in the end. When it came down to it being either him or Clinton, while I think both will make horrendous presidents, we were tempted to go with Trump. In the end, though, we couldn't make excuses for some of the stupid things he says. We understand that not voting for Trump is almost the same as voting for Clinton(although what makes the decision easier is that here in VT it would end up going to Clinton anyway, so we don't really feel as inclined to make a vote against her if that means Trump), but we're going to vote for our cat.

Do I think Trump is a racist? Honestly I don't know and don't very much care. At the end of the day it is actions(with checks and balances in between) that matter and not their personal opinions on a few things. There were other presidents that were not as vocal but weren't exactly free of prejudice towards people. Nixon was not a saint and that's just one example. Nor am I saying we need another Nixon LOL. I think anyone that says all, or even most Trump supporters are racist though, is simply out of their mind. It's kind of funny because to some people it's always about racism. This or that happens to said person of color/mexican/muslim/some other minority it's due to nothing but racism. If you don't like Obama you're racist. If you support Trump you're racist. If you're one of millions of British who voted for Brexit you are racist. It's really sad to see how some people see the world in nothing but shades of black and white. Never a spot of grey.

The obvious problem is that Trump knows words and he has the best words. And he is simply showing who he really is. He's a total racist who is unqualified to be President.

I've seen the other side of this as well.

I just left Seattle and had this conversation with some ardent Trump supporters. There seems to be only two kind. The ones who really don't want to see a woman in the WH and those who secretly think the way Trump speaks. I say that to say this:

The problem is most folks don't want to admit his appeal is due to his racist comments. Because if you think about it, none of his rudeness has been directed at his audience. He's made it a point to go after Mexicans, Muslims, Women and any other group that doesn't fit into the majority. Not once has he had a slip of the tongue in regards to his audience, he knows who to target. Like I said, he's the A-hole everyone likes as long as it's pointed towards at anyone but them.

And it's telling that the folks who support Trump have nothing but seething rage for Hillary, as if Trump is somehow a better person to run. Stats show he lies more than Clinton and Sanders COMBINED. He's had run ins with the mob. He's had more than a few lawsuits. And other polls show that more than a few people outright believe in what he's selling. Building a wall, kicking out Muslims, they're behind these crazy ideas because that's how they think.

So this whole folks are just angry and want a real candidate is BS to me. If anyone on the Democratic side had the exact same pedigree as Trump and his wife, they wouldn't even make past day one.
