hi

for most countries, the wait is over 12 years for siblings

for Mexico and Philippines, the wait is over 20 years

you can check out the visa bulletin

I thought India was ~20 years also for siblings.

hi

no, if you check the bulletin, even though India and China have their separate columns, they have the same dates as the rest of the world, for July the priority date is May 1st, 2004, over 12 years

And it is increasing all the time. For the OP's wife I woul reckon on closer to 30 years by the time the PD becomes current. There are more people joining the waiting list each year than are being issued visas. So the wait is getting longer.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Thanks, aleful. I guess since India has a high number of applicants also I pooled it iin with Mexico and Phil.

At this rate it is pretty much impossible for children not to age out no matter how young they are.

My mom's brother and sister recently immigrated to the US a few months ago and she had petitioned for them in December 2002. It took about 13 years for a visa number to become available and for them to enter the US. Best of luck!

I think that's part of the plan. To cut down the numbers?

Thanks to all for the replies. I am stunned by this. Has anyone that replied actually been through or started the process for a sibling? Just curious.

My coworker just brought her sister here in November from the Philippines..... The wait was 20 years.

What you don't realize is that there are different times by the different countries. So if your from Bangladesh you will have a different priority date than someone from the Philippines. The Philippines time is 20+ years right now.

I know that, I was just relaying my experience that sibling petitions do indeed take a very long time compared to other familial petitions. Definitely much longer than the 4-5 years that OP initially thought.
