I'm working on filling out my i-485 and building my packet. The immigration officer at the POE in Seattle, WA took the packet of all the papers I was intending to use to file my AOS packet including the NOA2 from the i-129f petition. That had my alien registration number which I need for the i-485 and I also need a copy of the NOA2 itself to turn in with this packet.

Has anyone else run into this problem before? How do you recover these documents or request a new one without paying a $405 filing fee for the i-824 to ask for a new copy?

They should only take your sealed envelope with your case documents in it, the one the consulate gives you with your visa. The NOA2 was sent to the USC petitioner and should be in their possession, so not sure how your original NOA2 was taken at your POE.

The USC petitioner/sponsor never made a copy of the NOA2 for their own files? If you cannot find a copy, then use the case status approval notice from the USCIS and the letter from the NVC stating the petition was approved. You can do a search on VJ about filing for AOS without the NOA2 and find a few threads on the topic.

Does your country print the A# on your visa? Did they write it on your passport when they stamped it? If you need to, you can contact the USCIS and ask them to provide you with your A# because you do not have it, and need it for filing AOS.
