I just need to know if i made a big mistake... my father in law what he did actually when we were filing for i--485 he put my last name as first name and first name as my last name...for example my first name(as it appears on my passport) is henry and last name is ted....he put ted as my first name and henry as my last name....

i received ead and travel document according to my name on passport... but i received green card according to the name he put on forms...is it gonna get me in trouble if i call uscis to correct my name on green card... because my id...workpermit and social has the same name accoring to my passport...but name on gc is reversed because of my own mistake/...

now my father in law insists that i should change my name according to gc and should not call uscis.... because he says what he did on form is common practice in america...

Green card trumps ead and travel. they're moot now that you have it so don't worry about it.

Unless you like your new reversed name, i suggest you change your name on GC. What your father in law said is wrong, it's not common practice in America. You can't simply call USCIS for correcting your name. You have to file I-90 for GC replacement with a reason citing the mistake on your application. Since it's you mistake, you might have to pay the fee again.

It could also cause problems when travelling to have your passport and GC in reversed name order. I don't understand why he says it's common to change the order in the US, but I don't know what the convention in your home country is.

(As an aside, I love your username ;) Not sure too many people here will get it though :) )

OH i just noticed that it says your green card is in the wrong name. Yes get your green card changed. Sorry.

I am very sorry to interrupt you giys again.... I filled my i-485 according to my married reversed name...they issued me green card according to the name on marriage certificate... if i change my ss and driving license accourding to new name...would it make a problem...

i didn,t took my wife, last name but fortunately my faather in law's last name is as same as my last name..

if i travel out with green card with court certified marriage certificate...do you think it is still gonna make any problems?

He .. i came here on k visa... I reversed my name when i was filling marriage certificate... i put all my names according to the marriage certificate....for example my name on passport is

first name: hashim

lasst name : amla

but on marriage certificate it is printed like this

first name: amla

last name: hashim

i received my ead , social and d/l according to name on passport...

but now i received my conditional green card according to the name on marriage certicate...

now if i change my state id or ssn according to the name on marriage cartificate and green card... ....is it gonna make any trouble when i will remove conditions or travel abroad..

i thank you all for helping me out... i am confused what to do...

I filled all the uscis and marriage certificate form in wrong order.. I mistakenly and unintentionally switch my names on firms and my first name became last name vise versa..

Example name on passport first name Ali

Last name Muhammad

And name on gc ... First name Muhammad

Last name Ali...

If I file I-90 for name corrections .. Can they refuse I -485 because of mistakes I did on forms...
