Hi Guys,

Quick question. I'm in the UK, once I receive my green card how long do we have to make the move and enter the USA? My American spouse lives with me in the UK and we'll be making the move together.

Your visa is valid for 6 months after your immigration medical. You will receive your green card upon entry in the US.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

 

K1 process

9/24/15: I129f sent

9/30/15: NOA1

11/2/15: NOA2

Delayed processing due to work

3/15/16: Medical

4/28/16: Interview (approved)

Delayed entry due to work

8/12/16: POE Detroit

You won't get your green card before you go. You will have a spousal visa that allows to enter and become a permanent resident. They will stamp your passport upon arrival and this will act as temporary green card until the real thing is posted to you there.

The visa must be used to enter within 6 months of the date of your medical.

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!

The expiry of your immigration visa also depends on your police cert. It's six months from your medical unless your police cert expires before that, in which case the immigration visa will only be valid for as long as your police cert is valid.

Dec 21st 2015 - 221(g) issued at interview for updated forms


Jan 13th 2016 - Mailed our reply to the 221(g) to the US Embassy, received and CEAC updated the next morning


Jan 20th 2016 - Embassy require more in-depth info on asset for i-864


Feb 1st 2016 - Sent more in-depth info on assets as requested. Received the next morning

In the US


April 5th 2016 - POE Newark. No questions asked.


April 14th 2016 - SSN received


May 10th 2016 - First day at my new job :dancing:


May 27th 2016 - Green Card received


June 7th 2016 - Got my Texas driver's license

Just curious, but do you have a source for that information about the police certificate? This page from travel.state.gov that outlines each step of the process doesn't mention anything about police certificates after the interview process.

my husbands criminal investigation reports were only good for 3 months and expired in NVC and i worried as we were there a year

but they stilll approved and were not an issue for traveling

it is within 6 months of the medical exam that you need to travel

and please, do not refer to this as getting your green card

you were applying for visa to be with the person you love

you applied for a visa
