Hello everyone

I will try to make this as short as possible

I made to USA on K1 visa on April last year, got married in July but never got a chance to apply for AOS..In December 2015 I had to go back to Egypt because of a family emergency, I left there and both I and my wife knew that we will have to go though CR1 in order to be together again, and we both agreed on this, But things happened and my wife changed her mind I have tried to talk to her and her family but nothing changed..yesterday I got a message from her saying that she's filing for a divorce and she gave me a number for her attorney asking me to call his office and leave a voice message with my full name, my phone number, and stating that we are married and that I agree on the divorce!

So, other than she went to attorney and filed for a divorce without telling me or mention anything my questions is..

1- I have heard that I can go to the court house here in Egypt apply for a divorce ""I believe they call it Absentia" and send her a copy without dealing with her attorney!! can anyone confirm this??

2- or should I call her attorney give him the information? it kinda concern me because I don't know anything about the divorce in the USA and I don't want to find myself stuck with anything or has to pay a big amount of money that I don't have or get banned from entering the USA again.. we didn't owe anything together we don't have any kids, and since i didn't do the AOS the only thing I have from there is SSN!

the last thing, so no one misunderstand anything, I'm not trying to fight with her or looking for anything from her, if she wants the divorce its her wish I'm just trying to be safe!

any answer will help..And thanks in advance.

Sorry about your divorce.

Its her attorney you will need to hire your own. If you disagree!! All expences will run by whomever the judge deems needs to pay. It can be you pay your attorney and she hers or she pay both or you pay both that only a judge will decide.

but if you are outside of the USA if you dont agree they will need to take you to court so which is why they want you to call..

They want you to say that over the phone to get an uncontested divorce.

If your not in agreement you need to fight it if you are call her lawyer

Thank you

but by uncontested divorce, if I called her attorney and gave him my info, that will be it, or what else I have to do?

Calling her attorney to give him your info is so he can send you the divorce papers. You will have time to review them and contest anything at that time.

As others have stated, there is no harm in providing him with your contact details. But don't agree to anything without reviewing the terms of the divorce first. When you receive the Divorce papers you may want to enlist your own attorney to review the documents.
