Hello! I am new in this forum. My son and I are permanent residents here in Canada since 2014 and still holding Philippine passport. On July 14th, we'll be applying for B1/B2 visa at the Calgary office. I am a little bit nervous just because:

1. My passport expire in March 2017. So it only has, 7 months validity UPON applying.

would it be a problem? I mean of course before flying to the US, I will renew my passport.

2. When I was filling up the form, I got confused with the Surname, Given name ...

On my passport, I have a middle name.. I did not put it on the form since it didn't ask for a MIDDLE NAME... it only asked for the Surname and Given name... then later on I learned that I should have put it together with my Given name... So I emailed the Calgary office about it, I received a reply after 5 minutes and it says, I can change it on the day of my interview... So that is good!

My friend told me not to be nervous because I already lived in Canada for 7 years already and my husband is a Canadian- and will be travelling with him.

That's it! Just sharing! :)

I will come back here after our interview and share our experience :)

Not sure how that works to be honest. I've never needed a visa for anywhere.

Except immigrating to the USA and i know it's not that complicated to visit. But I know my passport with the visa in it, had to be valid for 6 months.

A little bit complicated... :) to renew a Philippine passport , I have to go to Vancouver, BC. Flight going to BC Would cost more than even flying to the US. Lol!

I am from Edmonton. There is a Philippine Consulate in Calgary which is just 3 hours away from me and I am waiting since Feb. because they said that there will be passport renewal service soon. But upto this day they don't have it yet.

Now, it's summer, our family decided to go to Calgary. I said what else can we do in Calgary aside from vacationing.. The next thing I know is that I am filling up the DS160 form. US consulate is also in Calgary.

So that is the whole story... :)

Can you not renew the passport by mail? In the USA Filipino citizens are able to renew by mail.

I just looked here.

http://www.vancouverpcg.org/consular-outreach.html

The allow you to renew your passport electronically, you only need an appointment for a new passport.

Even in the renewal form itself they say you need to be physically present only for new passports.

I am aware of this. They dont allow passport renewal by mail. You have to be physically present. Airfare to Vancouver from Edmonton is between $300-$500 for an $80 passport renewal. That is why since Feb. I've been waiting for Calgary office to have the passport machine but that office is still not ready for it. :(
