what kind of guard will be put in place to control/minmize abuse?

Daniel

:energetic:

Required note from the Doc for anything more than a day's absense? That's the rule my old job used to have.

Does your employer cover the cost for that doc notice (i.e. the co-pay one will have to caugh up to get it)? If not, I think such rule can be contested. ;)

yeah that is true but the company that I worked for anything after 3 days will require a doctor's note.

This is a very bad idea.... because the democrats thought of it.

if you're sick, too f*cking bad. you shouldn't have gotten sick. quit planning on being sick and you'll be ok. if you're sick, quit being a whiny lazy b!tch and come to work.

sigh...

Relieved that I will never work for you.

Think taskmaster management. ;)

I typically send staff home if they show up sick.

I wish more employers were like you. I just hate it when people come in sick and spread their germs all over my workplace just because they're trying to be good doobies.

To be honest, I don't do that to be a good doobie. I do it because I have to. If your administrator tells you "when you're not here, you're not doing the job you were hired for"...what would you say?

I would tell him if he was sick and absent, I would tell him he needed to be at work, cause he was not doing his job that he was hired for.

People with McDonald's management mentality, don't manage professional people. If somehow they managed to get a real management job, they should have an escape plan for when they will invariably get sacked.

Professional Management 101 - Take care of your employees, as they are human beings, not slaves.

I have worked for an employer where the management culture was not dissimilar to that at McD or Walmart. I won't name the company but it is a large IT services provider and member of the Fortune 500.

And I am not exaggerating.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Not surprising, and clearly explains why you worked there, as in past tense.

That management style sucks.

They are still in business and are doing well. Most of the non-management staff I knew there have moved on, they've found new people and business continues. Management style, from what I hear through the people who remain, hasn't changed. Any way you look at it, the company is still making money off that account despite the high turnover and low morale. Maybe Walmart is on to something. Or maybe IT just isn't as "professional" as I'd like to think.

High employee turnover is indicative of sh!tty management. If they chose to burn bridges at every turn, eventually this will catch up to them.

They deserve to be bankrupt. If the public knew about it, they would be. We need a leak to the press!!

This just is not an issue that is any business of the Government. Every legislation they attempt to pass that puts a additional burden on small businesseses, just hurts our economy more.

Many to most businesses offer some form of Vacation or Sick Pay to their employees, in order to be competitive in the market place. And the Market Place is the appropriate place to take care of these issues.

It's not like the Government has any money of their own to use....remember, every added expense they throw on a small business, or any business, ends up costing all of us in our wallet, the expenses flow right down to the consumer, every time.

If it's going to be, it's up to me!

No it doesn't. Europe isn't competitive in the world marketplace. Unemployment is sky high compared to here at home. Any you end up paying anyway. Like one poster said, the cost of these sick days ends up on the price of goods. Where does a gallon of gas or a cup of coffee or a pair of jeans or housing cost more-here or in Europe?

Wages are also proportionally higher in Europe...
