AOS vaccinations

Hi guys,

I've searched in previous threads and I've read the pinned posts on this page about vaccinations, but before I spend $500 I just want to make sure we're doing this right.

Fiance had his medical exam in Haiti on 4/14. They did his chest x-ray and took some blood. They refused to give him any vaccinations since they are technically not required for a K-1. He may have had a few vaccines as a child but he has no record of them.

So now the only thing we possess from his medical exam is the CD of the chest x-ray, and a blank 3025 form that was signed by the doctor in Haiti. One of the civil surgeons I called today asked if he already had his RPR drawn (blood test for syphilis), and a PPD. I assume the bloodwork they did was the RPR, but of course I have no proof. And if he had a clear chest x-ray, does he need a PPD?

I was hoping to just have him get the vaccines he needs at the health department, and then get them transcribed by a civil surgeon. But so far I can't find one who is willing to do that without repeating the physical. They want to come in and "discuss the vaccines that he needs." With no insurance, I'm just trying to find the cheapest way and I don't want to pay for repeat testing if not necessary. This would be so much easier if they had just given him the vaccines in Haiti!

That really stinks... have you gone through the thread called "Civil Surgeons who don't rip you off" I think that's the one that people throughout the country post on to help people find CSs who are easy to work with. I'd recommend going to the health department, getting his vaccines, and then taking the vaccine record to the CS. At least they won't re-give him the vaccines and that might save you quite a bit of money even if they do the rest of the physical. The whole process of the Civil Surgeons stink. I wonder why they didn't give him any vaccines in Haiti.

I'll search that thread, thank you. I don't know why they wouldn't give him any vaccines. He even went back a second time and they said no. So now I'm looking at paying $300 for just the vaccines (and that's through my local health department!), plus the fee for the civil surgeon, which is up to $250. I'll add him to my insurance but the deductible won't be met so I'll have to pay for it out of pocket.

$300 just for the MMR, Tdap and varicella(only needed if you never had chickenpox)?

I feel the same way, my husband had to redo his entire medical exam with a civil surgeon here in Memphis, TN, $700 dollars. I really don't understand why they don't give the vaccinations in Haiti but they don't. Still highly pissed now that some BS.

Yes, and if that is through the health dept, I would hate to know how much a civil surgeon would want for those same 3.

We had the same situation and my husband had to redo the whole thing+vaccination. They refuse to give the vaccines in Haiti I do not know why, it would have been so much cheaper!. we got lucky we found a place where we paid about $200 for it all. We looked up civil surgeons on USCIS website base on our zip code, we call them all until we found the best price. Good luck for the rest of the process
