Hi All,

My now wife has applied for a social on 06/01/16 and we have not heard back from the SSN office about her Social. We have until July 23rd until her I-94 expires im getting concern. Should I go back into the office and see what's going on the worker seems like she was clueless on how to input her name in the system.

What we put down on the SS-5

Name on Card her first, middle, my last name.

Name at Birth her first, middle, and her last name before marriage

could this cause much trouble for unable to find her name in the system ? The worker there said she could not find her name and would have to verify it with homeland security and would take 4 weeks to verify. On her I-94 I notice they put her name down wrong upon arrival

I-94

They have it as her First name as her middle and her middle name as her first has this happen to anyone ?

The SSN office did take copy of her birth certificate, Vn Passport along with the entry stamp, and a copy of our marriage license.

Thanks in advance

Same thing happened to me when I applied for SSN under K1. Apparently is a common mistake to have the name misspelled by CBP and then that's a problem because it doesn't match the passport or any other document (in mine they misspelled my last name). After 3 weeks I was worried because I hadn't heard anything from them and I called to find out what was going on, and they told me it hadn't been processed (but both persons I spoke to didn't seem to be sure of that information), it was quite a surprise to find my card the next day in the mailbox.

So be patient it will come to you, it just takes some time.

Correcting the name on her social security card is easy enough. My husband's name was incorrect on his social security card, and it wasn't a problem until he tried to apply for a driver's license. Surprisingly, it was not an issue when he got a job. We simply went to the social security office, filled out, a form, and had the name change processed. You will need to provide some form of ID with the name as you would like to have it changed to--passport, EAD, GC, etc. His new social security card arrived in a week.

Good luck.

Just a update we're going on our fourth week waiting. We still haven't heard anything back from social security. Should I wait another week or should I just go in and see what is going on. She has until July 23 of this month till her I-94 expires. Its getting a little too close to comfort I'm getting really worried. I would rather have this figured out now while there still time left on her I-94 ?

I had the Same problem. I entered with a K1 visa. I waited the "4 weeks window" and nothing, then I went today, ask them in perdón what happened and SURPRISE, mine will arrive in 10 bussiness Days. My advice, go to the SSO after the 4 weeks periodo and ask them.

Just a update: I went to Social last Friday. All I got from them was my wife's application is still in immigration. Are they that far behind ? If she receive her temporary work permit could she apply again ? She just went into USCIS a few weeks ago for her biometric.

Thanks,

Not sure if you can have two applications in the system at the same time, so not sure about applying after getting the EAD unless there is a way you can cancel the first application. One thing I noticed is that you applied using her married name, usually it is recommended to apply in the name exactly as it appears on the I94 from a K1. The SSA seems to have a hard time dealing with applications from a K1 when there is a name change without another form of ID such as the EAD or GC. Of course you have the added benefit of an error on the I94.

Regardless, Good Luck! I would look into if you can cancel the first application, then just wait for the EAD so the I94 no longer is in play.

Well I just received a letter in the mail saying that her I-94 is now or soon to be expired and they cannot issue her a social they clearly waited for it to expire before they even responded this is ridiculous.....When I went to the office mutiple times they said its in process waiting for immigration. In the letter it said "notice is not proof of ineligibility for a social" but it also state to contact them to come in for a personal interview. Or should I just wait for the EAD and apply again ? and use her name before marriage on the new application ?

This does not explain why it took social security so long. We provided them with the proper documents. They kept telling us it's normal procedure.
