Fiancee Health Insurance

Hello everyone! My fiancee is moving to the United States this Saturday and I have some questions about health insurance. There will be about a month between her moving and us being married, so what should she do during this time period? Also, I am still on my parents health insurance until my employer coverage kicks in in mid-August. So my question is, what should I do for health insurance for her for the 1.5 months prior to my insurance being able to cover her? She is coming from Canada, could OHIP temporarily cover her? I understand not having US health insurance will result in a fee on my taxes but I just would like to know what to do for the very temporary basis.

No OHIP can't cover her. I entered in February and didnt get on my husband insurance until a couple weeks after we were married, so I went about a month or so without insurance..it really wasn't that bad. I did have to go see a doctor, but it was $60 at a walk in clinic, and any prescriptions I needed, I went to goodrx.com and found a coupon code for them. I just did a little googling and found this.: Under ObamaCare, you are allowed one short coverage gap exemption which covers less than three months in a row without coverage each year. In other words you are exempt for two full months, but need to have coverage for at least one day of the third month.

If you definitely need health insurance, look up some short term coverage in your state..should be pretty easy to google. Hope that helps.

Buy a short-term health insurance plan, it's cheap and it's only for emergency situations. No dental, no vision, no preventive care, 1k-2k deductible, but like I said, it's just in case of unexpected situations. It's enough until she will be able to go under your coverage.

I used to use short-term plans like this when my husband was in between jobs.
