Reporting birth of Filipino born in usa for filipino citizenship

Hello it has been a while since I posted. I have been very busy, my wife and I have been doing very good, she has been here over a year now. On June 2nd of this year , she gave birth to our baby daughter. I know I need to report our daughter birth to the Philippines so that she can also have her Filipina citizenship.

After researching it seems that the consulate in LA has the jurisdiction since I live in Austin. I thought there was one in Dallas but I guess not .My wife and I was going to mail everything until we notice that they want original of everything and photo copies. Neither one of us like the ideal of sending our original documents thru the mail especially her passport with her visa. Under the instructions it even states that the consulate will not be responsible for items lost or stolen in the mail.

The next option will be to fly in person to La which we don't like the ideal of the cost involved just to spend a couple of hours at the consulate.

We have decided that it might be best to do it in the Philippines since we have already made plans to go to Bohol in may to visit. My question is do we need to make an appointment at the embassy or can we just go there .We will probably go to the one in Cebu. but manila will be ok too as my wife has family in Manila and Cebu

You can't report the birth while in the Philippines. You have to report the birth through the consulate representing the state you live in. No option.

http://www.philippinesusa.org/index.php?page=consular-services-main/faq-main/#birth

You could wait for an outreach event in your area.

Or stop worrying about it and send everything using signature required delivery, insure it, include a pre-paid envelope for signature required delivery back to you again.

Congrats on the little one!! :)

Like Hank said, can't do it in the PI since you can only report it to a consulate or embassy and there are no Philippine embassies in the motherland.

I reported our marriage in person in LA and they were surprisingly quick to mail back the ROM and other documents that they returned. We would've mailed our application but since we were on vacation in San Diego, we made that side trip to LA. The only reason I didn't do the mail-in application was because I didn't want to be bothered to notarize the forms.

I literally just got our Report of Marriage documents back last week after sending them off USPS Priority Mail middle of may. Don't worry to much about it because it is fairly simple to do just follow the documents needed on the website and you will be fine. I had to send my documents to the Washington DC Embassy because we got married in NC and then moved to California, so the LA Consulate would not allow us to do ROM in person there. So just follow the what is written down on their website and you will be fine, also include make sure to include a return USPS envelope inside the one sent, so they can send everything back to you.

Also when you do priority mail like we did you are able to track it all the way through because we had my wife's passport, birth certificate, my birth certificate, and our wedding certificate in there as well.

They are not reporting a marriage (ROM) but reporting a birth of their child. Different process.

That is my bad I thought that they were doing a ROM first and then the Report of Birth. But take out the ROM and replace it with the Report of Birth Abroad then everything else will stay the same as well. They just have to make sure to put EVERYTHING the consulate asks for in the envelope, and include a self addressed postage paid letter envelope in the package as well so that they can send it back to you.

Yup. When we applied in person, the consul thought we were applying for Report of Birth for our daughter. He kept asking about our daughter while checking our docs and I had to tell him we were doing ROM.

We didn't wait for them to complete the process because we arrived there like 5 minutes before lunch break (and you know how Filipinos are with our lunch breaks) so I just left a paid self-addressed USPS flat rate envelope with them and I received the docs after about a week or week and a half.

Things were surprisingly uncomplicated and competently handled.

Thanks I did not know about the out reach program. That is what I will probably do I notice they have one in Houston in Nov of this year . I know mailing everything will be the easiest, but convincing my wife to send her passport in the mail is not going to happen. Of course I read in the instructions for the out reach program that La sends back the original document by mail. but my wife will probably not mind if the consulate told her they have to mail documents back

Houston is a short drive from Austin. I have friends there that we can visit. Also there is a Jollibee in Houston

thanks but it is a report of birth not marriage. My wife and I were married in the Philippines so no need for that

I understand that it is a Report of Birth and sorry I got confused. But I had to convince my wife to send all of our documents to Washington DC for her ROM, and she was really scared about getting our documents lost or stolen in the process as well. I had to convince her about it and just straight tell her we had to do this or it will not get done, also you can not get a new married passport if it is not done. So you can pay for Priority with tracking and extra insurance to help soothe her a bit like I had to do with my wife. Because I can tell you from working with UPS if a document has insurance on it then it is treated with kid gloves and ensured that it reaches it's destination.

Congratulations on your new addition to your family.

I get that it is a Report of Birth Abroad. But

she already got a Philippine passport in our married name. She never had a passport before we was doing her IR/cr1 process so when she applied for the passport she got it in her married name.

The main reason I want my daughter to have both citizenship is in the future me and my wife plan to live in the Philippines for a while and I read that a person should report the birth to the consulate within the first year of being born if possible. Although it can still be reported later with a explanation of why it was not done sooner

I like hank ideal of the outreach program and my second option is in may they have a big festival in Bohol that my wife family celebrate. So we will be going there then. and I could do a multi city flight stay in La for a couple of days

thank you for the advice

Sorry if you thought I meant your wife and a new passport, I apologize if I was misspoken.

I was talking about my wife at that point in time and her getting a new passport. Since she got here in 2012 we had never gotten her a new passport under married name since we did not want to go through the hassle at the time, and she flew last year to the Philippines with her old passport and our marriage certificate and our daughter's birth certificate as well. My wife's old passport expired last November and went to get a new one from the consulate here in Los Angeles, they told her that she could not get a new passport with her married name because we had not done a ROM first. So that is why we had to ROM to Washington DC since we were married in NC, and now we will go there next week so that she can get a new passport under her married name.

BTW you have a very beautiful daughter and Congratulations again, kids are always a blessing. I have 3 kids right now and fourth on the way. My two older children are from my x-wife, and my youngest is from wife. They all live with us so it's a mad house but we love it.
